Headers that Fit

Hello,
I have a 1966 Mustang with a 289 engine, T5 trans with the stock manual trans linkage. The new suspenion is dropped an inch as well. The car came with some full size headers on it hooked to a Magnaflow exhaust system. They hang maybe 3 to 4 inches off the ground at the collectors and drag on every high thing in the road. I love the stance of the car and the setup but it just won't work this way. My question is, with my setup, what full or short headers can I use to get more ground clearance? Thanks in Advance

You could go with FPA headers. They are custom. Mine have great ground clearance. The collectors sit up in the frame rail area. Call Stan and tell him your setup.

I have headers by Doug on my 65, but I have a hydraulic clutch.

Thanks for the reply but I've got so much going on with the car right now I can't come up with that much $$$ for custom headers even tho I would love a set, for sure. I'm thinking about a set of shorties as long as they will clear the clutch parts. When I got this car the clutch arm was rubbing one of the pipes when you pushed on the pedal. I heated up the linkage and put a slight bind in it to clear.

That's is a definite possibility but I'm wondering if someone on this forum has close to the same setup as I do and can tell me the exact model they used instead of me having to buy several sets until one fits. I can tweak them a little. I'm just trying to get the right set the first time. Thanks

Granted my car is a '68, but i have JBA shorties into a JBA H pipe and have no clearance issues at all. While JBA's are probably more on the pricey side, you cant beat the fit, finish and quality.

What he said - powder coated and I have the mechanical linkage for the clutch on my toploader... No issues and they fit well.

How about making the header selection a little more difficult?

69 with a 302, AC, PS, C4 auto - What would you use if you are not willing to change/relocate the power steering bracket?

Changing the location of the power steering bracket is an easy job, did the same on my 69 with a set up like yours.

MAC longtubes. They claim they fit PS cars with out the need for a ram drop bracket. Very nicely made headers to boot.

They'll also work on P heads. I already have a set of them waiting to go in along with my P motor. Heck, I may also put all the PS crap back on down the road.
