Cataract surgery in a few hours, should be a piece of cake. Things are sure different nowadays, they called Monday and said to bring my balance of the charges or they don't operate (and this is a large group and long established) , also said no personal checks--wtf--I told the wife I would like to get ones and be 1 short so they have to count it several times.

That sort of an operation should be no problem.Standart procedure.
But I don't understand why they don't operate if you haven't payed yet.
Where I live , they sent the bill later which we on our turn sent it to our Health Care Insurance.( sort of Obama Care )
I have heart many stories ,of hospitals in the states ,that they don't help you if you don't have the money ! WTF ???

Not the norm. Pretty easy to get treatment at a hospital anywhere here with or without insurance. We have entire segments of the population that use the emergency room as their doctor and then walk from the bills. Now if you have some major medical issue that requires extended and intensive treatment then it can happen, I suppose.

I had hernia surgery a few years ago and was advised I needed to cover the co-pay at time of admission, this from a large national hospital group.

Good luck and I hope you can see better. Last time I had to go to the emergency room I had to pay 180.00 bucks cash. Our insurance pays 100% for an ER visit. After about 3 months went by I received a letter stating that I had over paid by 180.00 and their "review board" was taking a look at it and I should get a refund shortly. In a couple weeks I received a check for 120.00. WTF. Their review board charged 60.00 to review the charges. Healthcare is the biggest rip off going these days and ******care sure didn't help on bit, at least for those of us with private insurance.

Surgery went well I guess, still pretty scratchy and blurry but they said it might take a couple of days to clear up.

Just don't try looking at those girly magazines for a while......... :thu

Wait! Haven't you always been scratchy and blurry? If so, then what the heck did they do to you?
