Heart surgery scary stuff

guruatbol

Always on vacation!
Well, some of you know I have been trying to get approved for surgery on my heart. Well it has been approved and now I have all this time before surgery next Friday to think about it.

This shart is scary! I go in and when they are done after 3 1/2 hours I will go to ICU with tubes and wires everywhere. I hope they give good drugs!

I spend 24 hours or so in ICU and then to my room. Then it could be 4 days to 10 days of waiting to see how my heart is doing and depending on how much they have to do to my heart after will depend on how long I stay.

WTF have I got myself into?

I know the way I feel now, it will be good to have my heart beat correctly. I can't even work on the cars without getting winded or tired quickly!

I am understandably scared now!

I was really calm about it a few days ago, but now that I know more detail, I am scared.....

:wtf am I doing?

I am so looking forward to Knott's I am going to need a vacation! I may have to bring the Excursion this year! Oh, well!

Will keep it in our prayers!

The doctors can do some amazing things these days so no need to worry. Probably best to find something to take your mind off of things till it's go time.

My step dad had the electro mapping type surgery several years back...aren't you having something along those lines? His was the not so invasive one that they go in and zap certain cells on the heart.

My 70 yr old Dad had a triple by-pass.......you can do it. Just think how much better you'll feel afterwards! It'll be fine.

Good luck and deep down you know you are doing the right thing---kids, future grandkids, wife,---all would miss you if you didn't have the surgery and went early.

Mel, you'll be ok and at Knott's as your regular, cranky self, just don't rush the recovery process. Take care.

Hang in there....all will be fine. Just have video....you know how things go around here... :wop .... Might ask the doc if you can stay logged on here and post while you are on the table.

Yea, it is kinda like that. They cut into each side of my ribs and run a radio frequency wire around the top of my heart then they make scars which reroute the electrical impulses the correct way in order for the heart to beat normally.

I know it is the right thing to do, I just am not looking forward to the tube and wires sticking out of my arms, chest and neck. I'll have at least one day in ICU and that is always F'd up. I do hope they will use some good drugs, so I can just not remember it at all!

Me? Cranky? WTF? Me? NOOOOO! hehehehe.

I will only miss knott's for one reason, That would be that Amber's doctors tell her she can not go!

Mel, I had double bypass surgery 5 years ago so I know how you feel. I will say this to you though. I think my overall experience was outstanding as far as surgeries go. I had tremendous care and the staff at the hospital were superb. Good luck to you, I will be praying for ya!

It's scary, but keep your thoughts on why you are doing it - to have a better life with your family & friends. Well keep you in our prayers.

Mel: best of luck with your procedures.

I've heard, though, that the doctors are really planning a heart transplant from Nancy Pelosi. Now THAT is something you should worry about. *G*

It is only natural to be worried that a surgeon is cutting a hole in your chest and giving you a real cool scar. I just hope that he does not get a "while I'm at it" mode and decide to make some other changes while he is in there. For some reason I do not think that you would make a good Melony. :nut
We will be praying for you and I look forward to seeing you again at Knott's this year.

My dad went through it just a few months ago. Yes it's scary, and nothing will make it less so, but you'll feel better afterward, and things like this help keep us around longer.

Best of luck, Mel, and I'll be thinking about you, and watching for updates.

Hi Mel

No worry dude.
My mother has such an operation and she feeling alot better now.She was 70 when she went to surgery.
Things like this are not abnormal anymore to procede.Even in Belgium.
As I always say ; America is 10 years ahead of Europe when it comes to medical treatment and such things.
( If we are talking cars .. its the other way around ) ( But that does not make it more interesting , it makes it less interesting and more expensive )

No Mel , don't you worry. You gonna feel much better after this. For sure.
Keep posting and take some pics when they are "operating" !!!

I was hoping he would get the "while I'm at it" issue and get rid of about 25 pounds of dunlop around the middle....

3 1/2 hours on the table, tube from my arms, neck, chest and bladder.....Wires everywhere...They better not only have good drugs, but they better use them too!

You know there is only one way to get a tube in the bladder and as a man, that better be put in and removed while I am drugged out of my mind!

Hell Mel, you'll be fine. I expect you to be at Knotts with a cool light thing in your chest like IRONMAN!

And you mentioned wires????/
Are you getting a MSD installed? :yah :hide

We're here for ya bud....you know that.

Keep us informed.....do you have a lap top to use in the Hospital? Heck you can be here all day with it.
