heat core outlet size

Since I'm running the 5.0 motor, I've got the hard lines running across the top of the intake. I'd love to toss 'em, cause trying to find hoses that work is a pain in the butt. But they house a temp sensor for the computer, so I kinda need 'em. I ran across a while back a diagram of someone that rolled their own and gonna give it a try. I don't recall exactly, but pretty sure that the heater hose is 5/8". Is that correct?

thanks

I'm pretty sure that the two hoses are different sizes, but I'm getting old..... older by the second actually. Look at the two metal tubes... are they the same thickness where the hoses connect? I'm pretty certain that one is bigger than the other.....

What I did... and we have identical setups...... I measured the ends of both the metal tubes running along the intake and of the heater core..... visualized where/how the bends needed to drop down from the engine to the firewall..... and then headed off to the local auto parts store..... where I made myself at home cruising through their radiator hose section in the back until I found two hoses that would fit/work with only minor trimming of the stock hoses.

The hoses need to be shaped like this.....

Good luck!

Dave, I was looking for the size of the actual heater core pipe diameter. I'm looking at tossing the stock ford hard lines across the intake and doing something similar to what this guy did. I can't remember who posted this pic to give credit to, but I really like his idea.

I'd bend the lines a little differently, and have the end connectors the hose size needed for the heater core, where he has 5/8 and 3/4 connectors.

I believe you've answered your own question.... if the metal hard lines running along the intake utilize 5/8ths and 3/4 inch connectors, it's probable that these sizes will line up/be the same as the tubes on the heater core.

The home built hard lines you have pictured look real pretty...... but...... it's a lot of work/money to construct something that is barely visible underneath the throttle body/upper intake/fuel injection harness. Those Russell fittings are NOT cheap.

There was (may still be) a guy on VMF that had a GT350H clone (that may be his username) and he did a custom set of heater hose tubes, looked really clean compared to the stock rubber lines. He had pictures on his car domain site. Its the same user that had an issue with a Keith Craft crate engine, some may recall that. I'll see if I can dig it up...it'll give me something to do...

I was close, it was 66hertzClone.... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/597572/2

I am in the process of putting AN fitting on my engine for the heater hoses. I decided to use the stock portion of the 5.0 heater tubes that have the water temp sensor. I cut it down and welded an AN bund to the metal tube. I now can easily disconnect the hoses when I need to do maintenance. For the supply line I have an electric water pump with screw in fittings. I will use 10AN fittings there and run the hose to the heater core. It should be pretty trick when I have it back together. For hose I will us Twist-Loc hose. I originally used 10AN for all the fittings so I now think I may have to redo some of the setup.

The heater cores in our cars are 5/8" on one side and 3/4" on the other?

That seems to be the question.... I have an uninstalled heater core sitting on a shelf in my shop and now I'm more curious than I've ever been. I WILL measure them as soon as I return from eating dinner.

It looks like the heater core is 5/8". Where as the efi hard lines are 5/8" for the upper line, and 3/4" for the bottom line.
