:skul THANKS for the warm welcome Ford Dude. I am a new (2nd) owner of a 2008 GT. This is my consolation prize for having to give up my late brother's 67 and 66 Shelby's. Anyone that is curious can see them on CTR Motors website blue and green. Anyway......here is my problem. The GT was bought at a Ford dealership and because the CARFAX showed it hadn't been registered for two years, the first statement out of my mouth was "will it pass smog"? This was before I looked under the hood. Ta da, the original equipment was replaced with an Airaid cold air intake. The dealer is ordering original equipment and will install it but I want to return informed to make sure there isn't something else that might have been tweaked.
I also have been in contact with the makers of Airaid and their website clearly states they don't make any equipment for a 2006-2009 Mustang that will pass CA emission tests. I was told those years, Ford put a carbon filter that needs to be in place to pass smog and it defeats the purpose of a cold air intake.
Does the GT needs to be tuned up after a return to the original equipment? Should I insist they perform a smog test to prove it will pass? The dealership originally told me the only reason it wouldn't pass smog as is, was because the Airaid system was missing a sticker with emissions info..........not true! Is there a chip or something that could have also been changed? The car has Borla pipes....muy loud. What else could this guy have done?
Thoughts? Input? I had been a Cougar owner ( 1970 351 Cleveland, factory Hurst-convertible) and my brother would have loved that I bought a Mustang. I really don't want to be a dumb bunny when I go back to the dealership.
