Long story short, I have an opportunity to get the wheels I want for a good size discount. The guy at the shop told me that he is concerned about the application I am putting them on and fitment issues. Based on your experience, What are your thoughts on this set up:
1968 mustang coupe. 8 inch factory rear end. Front wheels I am looking at are 17x8 front with 0 offset and 4.5 inch back spacing. The rears are 17x9.5 with 6 offset and 5.5 inch back spacing. The front tires I thought about using are 245/40/zr17 and the rears are 275/40/zr17 in BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp-2 tires.
I then thought about it and was told that to have the same diameter front and back tires, I would need to do 245/45/17 which has been said on here before. I for some reason was focusing on the middle number of 40 matching.
The guys concerns were as follows: With the front tire size of 245/45/17 he was concerned with the tire hitting the fender with turning especially if lowered than stock height. His concern with the rear was that the wheel would hit on the inside of the wheel well by the frame rail.
With that being said, before I jump on any deals, if I run the 17x9.5 wheels with 5.5" back spacing and a 245/40/17 tire, Can I make this work? If I have to trim a little sheet metal by the frame rail I am ok with this as its not a original restoration project, but a restomod at best. If I run 17x8 with 4.5"offset on the fronts with 245/45/17 tires, will I have problems with rubbing on the fender with turning? I don't mind rolling the fender lips and or possibly doing a small fender flare on all 4 wheels as the car is still in need of body work. At this point body work will be the last thing after the car is able to move. Want to put the disc brakes on and to do that I need wheels, so its a bit of a chain reaction at this point. But after wheels, I just need suspension parts and then I can assemble everything I have onto the car and It should be able to drive and be a fully functioning car. From that point on I can do the body work and interior work. So this is my long winded speech and my situation. Thank you in advance for any and all advice.
