Hidden car doors. Wave of the future...? Or not...

interesting but like all power accessories in car, they seem to go out and I bet maintenance on them would be a pain.

They have been around for quite a while but it seems no manufacturer has picked up on it. I wonder what side impact integrity versus standard doors would be. I think the most logical reason to have them would be for parking lot ease of access. Other than that, I don't see any real must have value.

The original design looks like it left the rockers alone. The door went out and under the rocker. The "new" car system looks like it would integrate a new rocker design to maintain a "stock" ground clearance.

What if you have a dead battery or similar electrical power loss? How do you manually open/close the doors?

you know, like how you open & shut your garage door manually if the power is out. Pull the red corded handle and hang on!

:sarc

Side impact resistance will be probably the cause this system isn't on the market. :confu
Doors seems to be on the skinny side!
Although when the doors are made with carbonfiber material , I see a future in this.
As with all electronical things , no power , nothing works !!!
But then again , every modern car has power windows ...........and a plastiek bag and tape in the trunk. :roll :roll :roll

+1

I am finding the power windows and locks on the Trans Am to be a real PITA. Almost have them all working again.

It would be fun to have those doors when no one else has them though just to see the :wtf look on a valet's face

Another issue would be the sever Texas afternoon "rain showers" we get sometimes. Those are the days you want to open the door just enough to slip into the car fast. With those doors, your carpet would be soaked.

Is it me or does the sill seem wider? Like the woman needs to make sure she extends your legs far enough to get to the ground.

Not only does the door need to work but the window needs to be always operational.

sucks in the rain and I also suspect they would not offer a manual (non-power) option... Great item of coolness tho.

Looks like a panel drops in place over the sill so items/dirt are kept out of the mechanism.

The electrical problems would not be much more than a lot of todays cars. Power everything anymore but reality is not to many problems overall. Hate to be the "one" that has tons of issues.

I think the safety is there, just not a big selling point to manufactures at this point. Plus, the manufactures will most likely design their own vs buying the ones shown.

Wire around the safety switch an drive with them open.....redneck style.

I'd love to see that survive one winter here in the northeast. Road salt in the tracks, burnt motors when things freeze up, 5" of snow in the interior on a windy day and the whole side of the car is open to get in or out....... No thanks..
