Holy ^%$*, How Big Can it Get?

Mainly for the local Kansas City guys, as I know all of you have helped support this show in the past....

Today was our local High School's 13th Annual Project Grad Car Show. We had 485 cars show in a little parking lot with room for 300 cars! Last year, Jeremy, Skip, Mark, Danno, & I froze our butts off with a 39* high temperature. This year was 85* and not a cloud in the sky!!! Ever try to judge 485 cars in 2-1/2 hours? We did it today! The motor blow even "worked" - blew at 47 seconds...

I think the show is at the breaking point. I don't see how we could handle it getting bigger... It's a shame that only 1 in 4 cars ends up with an award as well. I judged 70+ cars today, and it took a score of 91+ (out of 100 possible) to place. That's NUTS!

Finally, a note to people with NICE cars. NEVER try to leave a few minutes early.... The guy (65/66 Mustang) who won the 4 foot Chairman's Choice trophy pulled out of the parking lot just as his name was announced... Doesn't even know he won... :fail

What is a "motor blow"? Is this where Mark demonstrates his engine?

We take Mark's engine, drain all but 1 quart of oil...

For $1, you place a bet of how long it will run...

They start it up, hold it to the floor, and time how long it lasts. This year was 47 seconds. Closest guess gets 1/2 the money, we keep the other 1/2.

Last year's car had a serious miss (and too much oil), and wouldn't rev past 4000rpm. Gave up & shut it off after 38 minutes...

Then they take a large sledgehammer and let people bash it - 10 hits for $5. It's JUNK by the end of the day.

(local tow company usually donates a car for us)

Chairman's Choice winner...

Right before awards each year, local VFW does a flag ceremony and 21 gun salute. Place goes SILENT... gives you chills. One of the unique, cool things we do that doesn't cost a thing, but people remember. :5

of course it was nice...I wasn't there!

Glad it was a great turnout Bob.

Mark - I MISSED you guys today. Since I'm "retired", I planned to just hang out & visit. Since they were swamped with entries and I had no cars or friends, I ended up working my arse off again... It's all YOUR fault! :nk

I suppose I could have rolled the car out of the trailer sans engine :eek:mg

Actually Deb and I spent the day with 3 other CCI pups and their puppy raisers in Council Grove.

impressive! great show, nice coverage. Lots of really cool stuff there

I've never seen one of these before

Sorry I didn't make it either Bob. But we spent most of the day at the KC Pumpkin patch.

Don't doubt for a second though that I didn't say "Man, it's a beautiful day for a car show..." to Bonnie about once an hour.

I went to a really big local show over the summer... to stop that problem, they put a small sticker on the winner's headlights so that they know to stick around for the awards. They don't know where they placed, just that they did.
