Home made tach cluster

Corn Hauler
I been mulling over creating my own tach cluster. I have a mini tach in my stock cluster and it is a little small. I also do not like losing the oil pressure gauge in the tach cluster. I plan on adding the tach to the stock tach location and adding a fuel gauge to where the clock goes.

I am going to use a tach that has been converted to 3 wire.

I am going to use a stock cluster housing (not pictured) and add the pieces I need from a Cougar tach housing. The top housing is a 67 housing I bought about 8 years ago and was ripped off because it was a modified housing and not a original. The lower housing is the Cougar housing.

It is usable but I have a 68 not a 67. When I bought it, it was advertized as a 67/68. Never having a tach dash, I did not realize the 67 and 68 versions were slightly different. I most likely will sell it when I am done with this project. I know I will not get what I paid for it since it is a modified one.

Cut the tach mount out of the cougar housing and added it to the stock Mustang housing.

Cut the center out of the stock housing where the fuel and alternator gauge goes.

Test fit into the spare 67 Bezel, I will using the 68 bezel currently in the Mustang.

Now I need to make a mount for the fuel gauge that will be going where the clock normally is.

how is the depth of the Tach? When I did mine, the Cougar part was too shallow for the Mustang cluster and I had to section it and add about a 1/4"

If I had just cut the welds to take the mount off, I would have to had to do that also. I cut the whole piece from the housing back. I will take a side picture tomorrow.

ahhh, I see.
I had just drilled out the spot welds on mine.
Good thinking!

Made the gas gauge pod out of pieces of the cougar housing. Covered it in aluminum foil just to keep the light from lighting up my under dash area.
Then I painted the housing satin white and test fit the gauges.

Next I will pull out my current cluster and use the oil pressure gauge and speedometer with trip from it.
