How is it that

Didn't you know that none of that happened? The new politically correct history. Nothing violent to or from the US ever happened!
Everyone is :ep to anything anymore.

Anyway, thanks to those that fought for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're kidding right :dh

I heard an outtake this am of a Jeremiah Wright speech where he said TODAY was when "we" bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I guess Pearl Harbor was just a retaliatory strike huh.

It's sad that generation is quickly passing and the significance of the date as well. My dad survived two landings, New Guinea and the Philippines, and my mother worked on B-24 Liberators at Consolidated in Fort Worth.

It is sad. My 12 year old is into military history, he reads a lot of books and watches TLC and History channel and stuff. Other than that no one seams to care.

If you look around however, you would swear Japan won the war.

The news is too caught up in Tiger Woods and his wandering putter.

That would be funny if it weren't so close to the truth. America has a 5 second attention span, the rest ain't important. :hide

I saw something on the bottom corner of the front page today about a small group that got together to remember, mostly Vets.

I heard this from an educators view of history and covering of past events. Don't remember just where, but it was about 4 years ago. It was something like this....

In a class room of middle or high school students, there is only so much time to teach a subject. History is one subject that changes regularly more than any other that is taught. When new books are printed, there must be something eliminated to add the newer, important items, and stay in that alloted time frame. What to eliminate will vary as each person has important events that are close to them. This make history one of the most difficult subjects to teach, as students come with a preconceived ideas from their parents.

Now, I feel it is a shame that things are not taught, but think of what your parents learned and compare it to you classes. There were differences. The same is true in some aspects as a nation. News time is just so long....some person makes the decision as to what is important based on their past education......if they did not have a heavy emphasis on a subject in school or from parents, they may cut is as not major news.

It does bother me that things that my family was involved in in the past are skipped over, but I try to educated at least my family.......

The highlight of our trip to Hawaii in May was Pearl Harbour.
Very moving and should be a compulsory tour for every visitor.
In regards to teaching history, your'e not alone.
Down under, they now teach the kids about Captain Cooks invasion of OZ, rather than the discovery.
Funny that they dont mention the cannibals though.
I just wish they would concentrate on the 3R's
