How long can it sit?

I have a 600 carb that I have had sitting in a drawer for about six or eight months now. May be another six months give / take before I get started on doing something with my motor.

How long can a carb sit unused before it would cause issues?

It is in a climate controlled environment if that helps any....

Did you empty the fuel or add some Stabil to it?

I've never had any luck with carbs that are emptied and dry out, where as if I add Stabil and flush it through, it's OK when used again. When I put the car away for the winter I add Stabil at the last track event and then remove the carb and drain it. Sits all winter long and come spring (5-6 mths later), it fires right up.

You just said two contradicting things Mark - I'm a bit confusesd.

Are you saying that you run Stabil thru the system - i.e. filling the bowls etc and then you drain it again afterwards? Where you said prior that you never have luck with drained carbs. Does the stabil provide some kind of coating on the inside of the carb?

So I should probably trash it (or sell it?) or plan on rebuilding it when I finally get around to doing something with my motor?

When I add the Stabil it keeps the gas from turning to goo, whenever I remove the carb, which has been every year since I check over the engine, I drain it so it doesn't drip all over the place. I did leave it on all winter one time with the Stabil in it and it was no different come spring.

Without doing the background tech, I'd assume that the fuel that's left in the carb eventually evaporates, but since the Stabil was added it never turns to varnish.

I ain't smart enuff to splain it in technical terms, it just werks.

For the small cost of the product, it's worth adding to me. I also add it to my chain saw, weedeater and generator. I add diff stuff to the diesels.

So, to be clear...since my typing has my thoughts all jumblepucked.....

If I leave the carb on the car, I do not drain it, just run the Stabil/gas mixture through.

If I remove carb, I do so after running the mixture through, THEN drain the carb so I don't spill gas everywhere (since I usually move it around). I haven't had a problem doing it either way.
