How long to store hard liquor in stainless flask

Hey Dave,
I have a 8 oz stainless flask that my wife gave me and I recently put some Jim Beam black label in it to take with me to a function. You know the kind, mandatory fun but no alcohol allowed.

Anyhow, I was thinking that it may be a good idea to top it off and keep it at the office for those days when you just need a nip. However, that could be next week or 6 months from now.

What do you recommend as far as how long is too long before the flavor changes?

My personal feeling is you should be rotating the contents to your stomach on a set routine,,,,,,,often.......that keeps it fresh.

Sam,

First off, I'd leave the booze at home, especially in your employment situation. But if you must.... that JB's going to be fine for a LONG time. Think a couple years at least.

Dave,
I think you'd be surprised at what goes on here. Usually about once every other or third class, a student or group of students (typically foreign exchange students), will purchase a bottle for the instructors. If I slide my chair to the right 6 feet and reach up, there is a bottle of baileys, jameson, eagle rare, and nemiroff. Personally I prefer the JB as my taste buds are not that refined. The course manager about once a week or so comes in with a fresh cup of coffee and adds a nip of the baileys. We also have some yuengling in the office fridge.

I don't drink with my coffee at 9 am since I am a contractor and don't have the same job protection, but occassionally there will be a meeting at say 15-1600 and everybody will pop a beer or otherwise imbibe.

I think letting JB sit that long undisturbed could almost be considered a felony.

I think most alcohols would fall under this category!!

Hey hey hey!!! I ask for JB when I"m having cocktails...

Me too!! And you wouldn't believe the snobbish looks I get from other guys who then ask for JD...as if it is that much better at $1.50 more for a fifth. I mean, its not like they are upping the ante to johnny walker blue label or anything like that.

gotta admit, i cleanse the palate with crown royal exclusively. used to drink jim beam but found crown never leaves me with a hangover.

I don't personally drink any more. However, from what I recall of my "drinking days" asking how long Jim Beam , etc would last was a bit like asking how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop.

You know the old commercials where the owl would go one, two, three and then a big crunch.

No one really knows because it never last long enough but isn't whiskey one of those things that needs to be aged and the longer it ages the better it gets?

I let my Canadian Club age in my blood stream.......ahhhhh.......and no hangover either.

I don't know Dave personally, but the impression I get is that he probably doesn't have a stainless flask and that if he did, nothing would stay in it for more than an hour!

1/2 right.

No flask.

I'm really not the drinker that I'm made out to be. Do I like to drink? Most assuredly yes, but really only at social gatherings. Since it's winter.... and the back yard bar-b-q's and bike rally's are non-existant..... I've maybe had 3 cases of beer since November. I'm not the guy you see at the Qwickie-Mart at 5PM M-F getting his couple of 24's for the ride home. I'll only drink when we're out partying.
