How to Find Previous Owner - Thomasville, NC

I enjoyed the Mustang Times article about Dave Wallace's 65 K fastback, and his stories about finding previous owners got me thinking about how to close the gap in my car's history.

According to the DMV records provided by the state of NC, the car was owned by Dorothy Mae Davenport of Thomasville, NC, from 5/15/71 to 10/9/73, when she sold it to her daughter, Carolyn Diane Davenport of Trinity, NC. That's where I lose the trail, and it doesn't pick up until 1978 in Virginia. I have all owners from 1978 to when I bought it in 1996.

Any ideas on how I can locate either Dorothy Mae or Carolyn? Anyone from that Thomasville / Trinity area of North Carolina who would have possibly heard of this family? I'm just trying to close the gap on the PC's ownership history.

Do you have their last known address? The reason I ask is that county property tax records are available on the web. If you had an old address.... it could be entered into the counties GIS map program and you could possibly trace them through a real estate transaction.

A quick Google search turned up a Carolyn D. Davenport in Archdale, NC which is 1.9 miles from Trinity. This might be an easier search than you were expecting.

Wow,that was a good find! However, I called that Carolyn Davenport, and she's not a previous owner. Thanks for a great tip, though! Also, the most extensive PC Registry that I know is the one I maintain, and I don't keep details on previous ownership history on other cars.

Yes, I have an address in Thomasville, Davidson County. How do I get previous owners of that property in that time frame?

Hi Steve,
I don't have any answers to your questions. But wanted to say I'm already envious of the info you have on your INDY.
I don't know anything about mine. The previous owner wasn't helpful at all and now I've lost track of him too.
I don't even know which dealership my car was awarded to or whether it was a green flag or checkered glad award.
Best of luck in your search.
Joyce

If you're willing to spend a few bones on the report you'd be surprised what you can find on the internet about people.

Had a guy a while back rip me off on ebay. Moron thought to use a PO mail box but used his actual phone number so I reverse searched it and had his home address and real name in about 10 minutes on the internet. I gave it all to the ic3 guys when I reported him but never heard back from the feds so if anyone happens to be in Vegas and wants to break someone's legs for me..., LOL! I keep looking for a reason to make a trip out there myself.

The guy I bought my car from gave me all kinds of old repair receipts with various names / addresses but I've never bothered to chase them down and might think I was some wacko if I called them, etc.
