How to Install a Pertronix Igniter II Ignition System

That instruction set is lacking one vital component: bypassing the stock ignition resistor wire. Unlike the original Pertronix, the Pertronix II unit is designed to run on 12V, not the factory ~8V supplied to the coil. It may work...it may not. Mine never worked properly. I'd strongly recommend doing this, as well as buying a coil designed to run on 12V (running 12V to a coil designed for an external resistor can cause it to melt/explode).

Pardon, but the wiring is wrong in that write-up. The coil still needs the 6-8VDC and the Ignitor I, II or III needs to be fed 12VDC to work properly. I have been through the whole gamut of this issue, communicating with Pertronix to solve this. All this info is on my web site. Go to www.vintage-automotive.com - tech tips - How to Install a Pertronix Ignitor to get "The REST of the story".

My Igniter II runs like a champ with the resister wire.
