Good day to all gentlemen!
I showed up in the appropriate section and are ready to break your boxes and disturb with my first real post.
We come to the point: I am restoring a 1968 GT Fastback - 302 J Code
I would like to start gathering information about the restoration of the engine.
Here in Italy there are dealers can make retifica of cylinders, but our mechanics know little about our beloved motors.
The 302, which fits my mare is his right.
I think he passed two or three times the 100,000 miles (4,600 hour marks ..) and when it arrived at my home in January, I immediately tried to start the engine to see if it was a minimal working.
Well, after 10-15 turns of the motor scooter is playing! He stood for 15 years told me the seller, and I'm ashamed to say, I have changed oil and no precautions to try to turn it on.
I connected the flow of gasoline to the carburetor (his original Autolite 4300), sprayed on referrals W40 carburetor, filled the radiator with water, and 2 connected batteries. BRUUUMMMMM! Match!
He drove very well, worked all 8 cylinders, smoke exhaust NO, NO water loss, any loss of oil, it stinks NO, NO ugly noise, and when it went up to temperature (5 minutes) the least well kept. He did not reply immediately to the acceleration of the carburetor, but then rose to free laps. (I think for dirt inside the carburetor).
In the days of his power has never lost a drop of water or oil (perhaps there is more oil).
Well I said, I think I have a good basis for its recovery and restoration.
Now I'm restoring the body, and I will take something around the 2012 and 2013, so there is now a matter of my question, but I want a little time to prepare myself mentally and understand as best I can do to restore.
:confu
I wish from my earning +50-60 hp engine (can not even reach over 300hp).
But I want a reliable machine for running down the street with confidence and reliability. I am a family man and I do not want to go drag racing on weekends.
Point lot on its reliability.
I want to earn on the low-rpm torque.
I do not want an idle "mopar" I do not want an engine difficult to set up every weekend.
I thought about a configuration (looking in your various posts and in right and left around the web) and would like your advice.
Edelbrock RPM intake with 500cfm carb AIR. (The choice to change the carburetor because I read that I did not speak well of the Autolite 4300 series, for fuel leaks, a few adjustments to the carburetor, etc., and to make a reliable 4300, the cost of this transaction exceeds the purchase carburetor and intake Edel)
Tree angle valve job heads.
Improving all flows of its original heads (how? Else is some guide / book that shows how and where to work? How to improve your heads? I do not want to mount aftermarket heads because I seek not great great great performance)
Camshaft slightly better performance (which?).
Crankshaft and connecting rods balanced.
Pertronix electronic ignition.
Water pump - oil - gasoline new.
Replacement of all bearings, bushings, seals.
Mainfold the series 289 Hi-Pro (K Code)
Exhaust Flowmaster series 44 or 50.
I often read of "blueprinted" engine, what is it? And where to find a guide for how to do a good job for the engine and get the best out of him?
How to do a good job in the restoration of a 302 engine?
Keep in mind that I want to use the best parts to put in, with an eye to cost, but as the first importance to its quality.
:confu
For now begins well, thank you for your time, and forgive me for my stupid that I will. :wor
