Corn Hauler
All the pieces for the alternator brushes. All should be in your alternator, these brushes are new.

Showing the other side of the brush housing, the slot is where a rod goes to hold the brushes in during install. I used a small piece of welding rod.

The rod is pushed thru the guide insulator piece what holds the mount bolt (I believe that it is the FLD mount).

Put the spring in the first slot and the the brushes in. Push down the brushes so you can get the rod over the brushes to hols it in.

Repeat for the second brushes. The tension of the springs will hold the rod in.

The smaller of the holes is where the rod will go thru and the bolt goes thru the larger whole.

Add the white insulator and nut. Then bolt the bout down on the inside.

Do not pull out the rod yet. Slide the shaft back in. and bolt the cover on.

Now you can pull the rod out. You should be able to feel and hear the two brushes engage the shaft.

Add the fins and pulley and you are done. I took it to the auto parts house and they tested it. Charged at 65 Amps. All is great.

Re: HowTo: Change you Alternator Bushings

What you are calling "bushings" are really termed brushes. Bushings are type of bearing.

Dad gum, I new they where brushes, for some reason, I had the word bushing stuck in my head. I have changed my write up.

Congrats, John. You are now officially a rocket scientist!

Great explanation.Especially that thing how to hold the "bearings" :thum :whis :whis :whis
