I bet I have found the reason for my oil leak.

Just took the pan off. Right where the rear pan seal is has the bump. In said bump is a gash in the metal. Basically an indention in the metal right there.

Going to go ahead and wait for the motor guy to come by and give the rear main an inspection but my guess is the rear pan seal wasn't sealing good due to the indention in the metal.

Thank goodness I have a new pan and new fel pro gasket waiting to go on :)

I probably should have but I bought a Fel Pro from Summit.

My guess is the new pan will fix it...atleast that's what I am hoping :)

I put black rtv in the notches in the main caps where the rubber indexes then I goop up the outside corners where they'll get a nice squish when the pan is tightened. I tighten the bolts just to the point where it just barely starts to squish the cork out the side.

Second time I've had the pan off mine. No leaks either time.

One-piece Felpro Permadry oil pan gasket FTW! I installed one and have never looked back. You can actually install the gasket onto the motor first using their retaining pins that hold it in place, then lift the oil pan up in place and start putting your bolts in. The retaining pins thread into your block like a standard bolt, but have retainers that hold the gasket in place as well as holding the oil pan in place while you grab the bolts. No more worrying about the end pieces sliding off, the cork squeezing out the sides, or scrambling to install and tighten bolts while trying to hold the oil pan and gaskets still with the other hand. I also have the Permadry valve cover gaskets and am just as happy with those. I just wish they'd come up with a one-piece intake gasket! :lol

We got the pan back on so we will see if that stops the leak. My guess is it will. The old pan had the one gash that looked like someone hit it with an axe or something. Anyway, I now have a chrome oil pan, not that anyone ever really will see it.

I had today off but I had to go to a reception deal related to work at 5:30 p.m. today. By the time we got the pan back on and then I put the starter back on, cleaned up the inspection plate and put it back on then reconnected the battery I was putting oil in it very quickly about 4:15 p.m.

I'll drive it around (weather permitting) sometime in the next couple of days and see if the leak is fixed.

On the plus, I have a new trunk mat, spare cover, etc coming tomorrow. Working on some of the smaller details now to get her all dressed up for the annual charity show the local car group has once a year. I've never entered my car in the past because the paint always looked like crap. This year, my paint will be new :)
