My best friend's brother bought one last winter, and with a whole 15 minutes prior seat time, I took it to the cones on Saturday. It was certainly exciting, but if I were to say that it was a pleasure to drive, I'd be lying through my teeth. In fact, it is a cantankerous, ornery sumbitch. There is nothing wrong with the cornering and braking; in fact these were exemplary. The problem was that the power delivery was exceedingly non-linear. It was plenty fast right off the mark, but then at the end of the straights, just about the time that I was thinking about the brake pedal, the turbos would start to wake up and the thing would go into warp drive and go from fast to really, really fast for about the last 10-20 yards.
In the heat prior to our runs, I had reigning SMF national champ John Fessler do a couple of exhibition runs to show everyone what it could **really** do. His best was a 56.8XX sec. Just before we ran, I told my friend that if I ran a 59.999 I would be thrilled. It took me all four runs to even begin to get a handle on the car and quit making really major mistakes, but I finally did a 59.052. This put me less than .3 sec away from the ASP win for the day, on all-season (!) street tires no less, so I guess it was a pretty good day. If I get the chance to do it again, I will be on it like flies on a cow patty.
Yes, I know--pics, pics, pics. I was a bit busy trying to keep this beast from eating me and so took none of my own, but I'll try to link some in as soon as the club updates their photo gallery.
