I let the smoke out of my 03 Ranger

I went to Costco for gas this morning and at the first stop sign in the shopping center when leaving a saw smoke coming from under the hood and at my feet. Burning engine oil smell, not steam. Engine stalled, restart and idle fast and not running well, just enough to pull out of the intersection and into the parking lot. I got it towed home for now. Monday when I get home from work I will have it towed to my mechanic. It is a 2003 Ranger Edge Plus 4x4. 140k miles on the engine. That is why I like having a spare car. SWMBO has been driving it to work, she will have to use her F-150 for now.

If there had been flames and you have comprehensive coverage on it you could claim a fire on insurance, a lot of people around here carry comp and not collision on their work cars, pretty cheap and it covers deer hits and fires without buying collision.
