Today i went for a drive to find some huge junkyard that everyone around here talks about. Its about 2 hours out into the boonies. The junkyard was a bust as they just crushed 3/4's of their inventory. [member]After leaving we missed a turn and i seen in the distance this:

I could tell from the road that there were quite a few mustangs and some old cars in the field beside some old modular type home. I went down the drive way about 1/2 mile long and knocked on the door. An old man answered the door and i asked him about his collection. Theres about 60 vehicles total, 45 mustangs of which 35 are of the fox type. Most were 79 - 86. A bunch of convertibles, some T-top Gts, and even 2 svo's but thats beside the point. I snagged a few pics before i went to the door.

He had some old galaxies, a fair lane, a 60's thunderbird, a 67 coupe, and TWO 67 Fastbacks that are rough. He wouldn't let me walk through the yard, but from the porch i could see one in the back that was basically a primed shell with nothing in front of the fire wall. From the road this is the one that caught my eye.

The tag on the plate expired in 84, the interior is all there and complete. Father and son drove 10 hours away to drag this home maybe ten years ago. Since then, it hasn't moved. It has some impact damage on the front passenger bumper/fender and the rear driver bumper/quarter. Basicly as structually sound as your 67 project POS. Theres All kinds of wrought. The man goes on to tell me that hes a vet, and dying with cancer. All this stuff now belongs to his son that wasn't home. The son is mainly into the fox cars, and restores and collects them on his free time. He gave me the name and number so i could call and talk to him. I don't even know if he wants to sell either of the fastbacks, but i wanted to get a game plan together before i even call. To me this would be a multi year rotisserie project. I don't really have the disposable funds at the moment, but opportunities like this never come around here. Both have good titles, so i would be interested in either. Any Input?[/member]

Definitely talk to the kid and see what he knows about them and if they are for sale, ya never know..... If you can get a "deal" on both, you may be able to flip one to finance a part of the build of the other one... Just a thought

There's not one correct answer for your situation. As an enthusiast, you have an overwhelming desire to add to your collection.... moreso as your existing car(s) near or are at the level of completion.

Several factors need to be addressed.....

Where will I keep this car?

Will I have the willpower to NOT dump every hard earned cent into the resurrection?

What will I eventually do with TWO completed classic Mustangs?

If you can store the car and it's within your means to resurrect it, then go for it!

Understand though that this enthusiasm for classic Mustangs will likely eventually take a back seat to something else. There are VERY few in this hobby who have maintained a lifelong commitment to the hobby. You do see these people here on the forums, but they are a very small percentage of the "big picture". For every "lifelong enthusiast" that you see here..... there are 50 who thought that they would also be at one point in their life. Wife(s), kids, house(s), job(s) and life in general will eventually interfere with your enthusiasm. The chances of you owning your existing car.... the one in your driveway.... that you'll never sell..... 10 years from now is remote, at best.

With this said, why burden yourself with another project/car? Instead of spending what remaining "Mustang time" you have left in your life toiling away piecing another car together that you can ill afford to, why not just.....

Enjoy what you have right in your driveway!

Okay.... I'd try to buy it if the price were right..... it's a FB and if you get it for a good price you can always sell it and get your money back out of it. But with that amount of Mustangs/classics in the guys yard, it's doubtful that you'll get it for a song.

Good Luck!

It is only worth what you can afford or what you want to pay. The next guy might have more or less to spend. Decide what you would give top end, back down from there and make an offer. Everyone has a difference of opinion based on their perspective. I would see what they want and go from there based on my own packet book.

Is this white car on the right a galaxy? That could be an interesting find....

Yea pete, but as dave says, life can get in the way. So i guess im more concerned with getting my money back if i had to, and relatively quickly. This kind of project, i would likely acquire, and take a few year collecting parts, before i did anything. I could determine the value of parts, but not a rusty shell. I Know the 67 - 68's are arguably more valuable then any other model. So whats the going rate for the average "next guy"?

Rick, i want to say it was, maybe 63? I cant be 100% sure. I was blown away buy all this stuff. Most everything looked as if it had't moved in quite some time.

One of the more interesting cars to me, was a grabber maverick. looked just like this one, but beat down.

This dude had a ton of chit... Even a couple old '50's lincolns.

Sorry, again, it is still so much a variable. The next guy could be loaded and care less what he pays for the right unit. I still say spend what you can swing, not more. Otherwise, you will be fighting an uphill battle all along.

I really wonder if you are in a position to take advantage of this one. I can only read what I see...... Not being nosey at all. Maybe wait and see what else comes along when you are in a better position. I never buy when I am worried about selling............just my thoughts....

No, i see your point, and i guess i posed it wrong. Its not that im worried about selling, just trying to figure out a good fair value.

I just have nothing to base it off of. When i got my coupe, a year and a half ago, i stumbled on it, and worked what i thought was a hell of a deal. Lets be honest, a FB, is a totally different ball game. I searched on ebay, and theres not very many projects to base a value off of. So im just trying to gather as much info as i can.

Ebay 1

Ebay 2

I can only assume these are about fair value.

You can also try craigslist, use this in a google search 67 Mustang fastback site:craigslist.org it will pull up from all of craigslist, see if you can find something similar

Im amazed. That is cool as chit rick, I never knew you could use google like that. Thanks... Now i got some reading to do.

A few off the top:

Remember, those on ebay are being bid on with no reserve met yet so the selling price is higher than bid so far. Craigs List is a fair spot to look too, as mentioned.

Would you pay $3000 for the one you are looking at? That is most likely more than I would go, but then again, I am not one to live a life of Mustangs only. If I ever get another classic after this one sells, I doubt it will be a Stang. Been 11 years solid with Mustangs only. For me, it is time for a change but I may never get another one either...

That is an interesting way to search. Never saw that way before. Sure makes it easy.

This is all speculation because i dont even know if its for sale. My coupe is my first and only classic mustang. But ive owned 7 so far in my life. As many as 4 at one time. In fact the only reason i sold the last two was because of my 67. I was likely thinking 3K was on the lower end of value. And hoping to be somewhere lower then that. :lol :$$$

Wow, something wrong with that car in Atlanta.... '68 car, '67 grill, but checkout the rear tire and how outta whack it looks

Damn rick, your observations, never cease to amaze me.
