It's a long story... filled with drama and a certain clique within the club.
You may not have noticed but lots of us seem to have time to kill around here!

Just one of many more reasons that I don't sign up with a Club. :skul

I joined this club last year back in June, after I got Gertrude. It was good group. We had our weekly cruise ins once a week on Wednesdays. Then again on Fridays we'd hang out at the all club cruise in (about 3-5 clubs there). Over the winter, it got pretty damn damn cold outside and not really weather to sit around in at night so we started doing weekly dinners instead. There was no offical 'vote' to cancel the weekly Wednesday night meet. Everything in the club is voted on. It was just suppose to be a temporary thing until weather improved.

Spring rolls around... everyone still going to the dinners and not showing up afterwards for the meet. One monthly meeting it was voted by members to move the Wedn night meet spot from Krogers because new food place opened up and the parking lot got too crowded. Summer comes.... same thing. No one showing up but the same few folks. Me included in those. Now the weather is cooling off and it's pretty nice outside at night. Good meet weather. Still no one is showing up and rather go out to eat at 6:30 then go home. Our official time for the cruise in is 7:30-8pm until 9ish. So not like folks couldn't do both which is why the dinner time was set for 6:30 so folks wouldn't miss the cruise in.

Last month, our club was invited to join the all club cruise in at their new location, next to a Spoons frozen yogurt place. So me and the few that show up religously every Wed & Fri night said ok, sounds like fun. Better than sitting in a parking lot by ourselves. No other club members ever show up. Well Wedn was our monthly meeting. We had car show to discuss. At the end of the meeting I mentioned that attendace was so poor on Friday nights, that the few of us who do show up, are now at Spoons so we don't look like morons sitting by ourselves. That got me a few dirty looks. Oh well.

After the meeting, I went down to the cruise in spot to meet up with the 3 others that show up that couldn't attend the meeting to inform them of club news, show stuff, etc as well as hang out. Well one of the guys said he'd rather go over to Spoons both days a week and the we kind of agreed. There's food, and a bathroom. So he posted it on our forum that those of us who show up are going to go over to Spoons on Wedn nights instead of the offical spot voted on by members. Oh hell... that ruffled some feathers.

One comment that was made really rubbed me the wrong way.

they can do what they like as they want...they've already demonstrated lack of interest in the club...don't let it worry you...
Some people are content to sit in a parking lot...just let it be.

:wtf We show up twice a week to the cruise-ins. I attend every monthly meeting. I run the clubs website/keep it updated/etc. I use to show up when I could to the dinners but lately money is really tight so I just can't afford to spend $15 at a restaraunt once a week. The married couple that shows up has family obligations on Wedn (they take care of her elderly father) and so does the other guy who shows up - family commitments. So us 4 just cannot go to the dinners. We show up for car shows. This past summer there was a 2 day car show. I was there (even though I had to drive a car lot car and a vette at that! lol ) but I was there BOTH days. So was the married couple and the other guy. The other club members? Oh they showed up the3 first day for about 2 or 3 hrs and left. Never came back. Another couple shows over the summer which I attened even though I didn't have a car to show. I showed up, brought a chair and hung out with the folks who did bring a car. Show my support. Most recent show I did not attend because it was too far away and didnt want to risk driving my GT with it overheating, and I needed that day to work on Gertrude so I can get her to our clubs car show. The married couple and the other guy though did show up at the recent car show.

The guy who made the above comment... well he's never at Wed or Fri cruise ins. One of the ones who goes out to dinner though every Wed night. He won't dare go to meets unless he can drive his precious yellow car. If his car is off the road, you won't see him at any car shows or cruise ins. Doesn't stop me. I like showing up with no car and having folks ask me what I've done to it lately, when are they going to see it again, etc. It'll be more fun when I can drive it again, but it's all good either way.

I think what really upsets me is this how it's brought up all the time how we need more members and how they think everyone has money to spend. How they don't take all members into consideration when they plan stuff. How are you suppose to meet folks and get them interested in the club when no one sees you? Why make plans for a group boat cruise to the carribean?? Helloo???? The ones who planned the club boat cruise (1)have no kids (2)own their own business (3)have finished car projects. That's fine and dandy if a group of them want to go on a little 7 day Carnival Cruise.. but don't make it a Club Event. Makes the rest of us feel like shit because we can't go. Why not come up with someone all the club could do? Like a road trip to Spring for the Niftee 50s. That was brought up and no one wanted to do it. Go figure. Oh or how about the 2 couples who decided to go on the Cruisin the Coast? Was anyone else asked if maybe that might be something the club could do? Nope. Do something car related...in this club? NO freaking way!! It's all about shoving your mouth full of food and sleeping.

:confu... There in lays the problem as I see it.
Twice a week makes it like a job that no one wants to go to.
Maybe a once a month meet up would bring more people out as it would be easier to make it
once a month and not 8 times. :shrug

Our club only has one official cruise in.. Every Wednesday night. It has been that way for several years now and local folks in town know a car club meets every Wedn night. The monthly club meeting is only once a month to discuss club stuff - shows, fundraisers, etc. For the longest time it had always been the 2nd Thursday of every month. A couple weeks ago they decided to move it to every 2nd Wednesday so they could eat dinner and then have the meeting.

Friday night is for all local clubs. Its not just for our club. All the car clubs got together and decided on a night so that we could stay in contact with one another. It had been that way for years as well.

A car club with a clique? I can't believe that :sarc

Thank's Kat.. this just reinforces my resolve to never join a car club. Sounds like to much politics for me. I'd rather just drift in the wind by myself. No times, places or obligations seem to work for me. But to each his/her own.

Now what could you possibly mean by that?

The "it rains only on track days" club, the "terror on 3 wheels trike" club, the "I love sheep club", etc etc etc.

I hate to tell you, but the Moderators got together and made a plan to make StangFix a more flexible forum and to form a more perfect Mustang Club. To do so, every member will be required to pay a monthly fee of $10 to remain a member. If you don't pay, you don't get to post.

The forum will be renamed ComradeStangFix in honor of the government most admired by the Moderators. Resistance is futile.
