I really hate this but,

we may be going back to Verizon. Might have a stipend through the wife's work that will actually reduce the "net cost" even though we're currently using straight talk. (she has a work issued bb) So my question...reluctantly...is....which damn smartphone should I get through the verizon network. There are 50 million bb, droid, whoknowswhatthehellthatis options so I'm about as lost as lost can be. I don't game, won't kill the net from the phone, would like a good camera, want something fairly simple to use, and want a decent battery life. If you know of a "flip" smartphone that would be great but I don't see one.

Honestly, my droid x is by far the best phone I've had...until the latest software upgrade. I might switch to an iPhone when it's time for me to upgrade phones.

Droids I hear are good. iPhones are good. Think Verizon works with those phones. What about HTC? Not sure what carrier they have.

I have a jailbroken iPhone 3GS with t-mobile and I love my phone. :pbj

I switched a few months back from AT&T to Verizon when our contract was up.

Love my Droid!

We ditched AT&T because it would drop calls on a very regular basis and the frickin phone did not work in a lot of places...like half of my office, for example. If I had to go to the conference room I had zero bars. Not good if I was stuck in a meeting and there was an emergency at the boys' school.

Kid just upgraded his lone from iphone 3GS to 4S. And loves it. Service is with AT&T (we have grandfathered unlimited data plan).

I have an HTC and I like it. I thought I would never give up my flip phone, but now that I have I can't go back.
I've got ATT and their coverage does suck. My phone doesn't get signal at work either.

Duane your timing sucks bro! I also have Verizon and have been with them for almost 10 years. If you would have asked this at MBB I woulda let you check out my Droid X and see how you liked it. Battery life is lower than my old phones, but I think that's a given with the "smart" phones. I'm not a big fan either of the recent software upgrade, but I'm getting used to it. I switched over from a BB Storm. They SUCKED!!!

Can't help you on the verizon front, since I haven't been with them in years. My co bb was with them until they switched to sprint. Big mistake, service sucks out loud. Now they're paying me to get my own phone, and killed the bb.
For work, I've got a HTC inspire. Massive screen, pretty dang fast, 8mp camera with flash, video and such. Pretty good hardware, but I find the software lacking. Outlook sync is hit or miss, need apps to do some things the bb and iPhone do natively, and the battery life SUCKS(as with most smart phones).
I love my iPhone, but hate having to use iTunes. I've got a 3G now, but I'll be upgrading it to a 4s as soon as they become available again.

Thanks for the input. I will stick with verizon as I've used them for years and even my ST phone uses that network. Best coverage out there IMO. My biggest deal lies within the phones themselves. I'm not gonna like the transition but hey, saving a dollar is what it's about. I've looked at some of the droids and the Iphone and when I find one that I *think* I can deal with it seems like the size of a netbook.

Not the first time I've heard that. I'm actually looking at the X or X2, whatever it is by Motorola. I'm not sold completely on the Iphone but haven't ruled it out. If I/we get one I guess we'll either give our two fairly new Ipod touches to the kids or sell 'em. This sucks. Hell, I went the other day and was gonna get a Mifi with the 2gb allowance...lowest allowance offered. Guess what? You can't get that with a mifi, tablet or netbook only. You have to go up to 5gb running a standalone mifi. Have I mentioned how much I despise this stuff?

Keep the suggestions coming, thanks.

I'll just add that the Droid Bionic is 4G, the Droid X (old) & X2 are 3G. A good friend at work has the X2, me Bionic in a side by side speed test the bionic averaged 8 times faster.

I can't afford a bionic. That thing is high dollar.

Can't ? or won"t??

Getting a 4G phone just means J's perverted texts will download faster!

The bionic is $300....WITH a 2 yr contract. Add in J's lightspeed pic downloads and you got a big 'ole HELLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOO!!!

You might want to check into the deals they are offering. I got mine for 100, they were offering 100 off with trade in and upgrade to smart phone. Plus I was eligible for new every two so that took another 100 off. If they aren't offering any deals look on the net. I found some places offering 100 for your used phone depending on model and brand.
