I seem to be missing the password protected boards...

Ummmm....did I miss a setting I can't seem to find so I can view the Old Farts Lounge and Political Board.
 
A couple hours ago they were public, ie, not password protected, so locking them out is the better choice for now until the password is resolved.
 
Well, it looks like there is not an option to password them at the moment.


I will consult the staff to see what they suggest.
 
If they are kept public with new/modified rules I suggest wiping the history of existing posts that were presumably made with an expectation of privacy or otherwise an expectation that the posts would not be viewed by the public in general.

I think that's a great point, as I myself have mentioned things in the politics board for the sake of example or argument that I wouldn't want made public.

We can set those boards to only be viewable to members here, but not visible to "visitors and guests" (that is people who come here through google but never sign up)

How would you feel about that...them being visible ONLY to members of this forum, not visible to google, not visible to guests, not visible to anyone who hasn't created an account here...BUT open to every member of this board?

My take is that, in actuality, that was what the rules were before, as there was no way to know which of the members here had that password, and any given member at any given second could get the password anytime they wanted.

But I(we) would love to know other member's opinions.

Not if you log out first.

As long as they don't get more restrictive, I'm fine with waiving the passwords. If it means "The Thong" is gone, nooooooo way!
 
Just do what I do. I password protect my home pc, then I can lock the pc when I'm not around. Wife can't get on my laptop and pc. She has her own she can use though.

How do you do that? I need to do that at work to send a message to some people.

Do you log in to the pc? If you do, just crtl+alt+del, then hit lock computer. If you don't have a login on the pc, I'll pm you the instructions on setting it up.
 
I think leaving access to members only and no guests/visitors would work.

For those who don't want SWMBO sneaking a peek at what you posted *coughThongscough* :roll... well make sure to log out.
 
Those boards were basically visible to anyone who was a member anyway. It's not like you had to go through an FBI background check to get the passwords.

Simple answer to walking away is hit log out...

Oh, wait I'm not logged in to the "Grumpy Old Farts Lounge" Yea members only will work.....

I think if it is too far out for SWMBO, then I shouldn't be looking at it anyway...

The way i see it once you have become a member you are aware of the contents of the password protected folders.
A heading that says "if you dont want to be offended by comments that are usually offensive, then dont look" is pretty understandable
As the owner of the PC, any further policing is your own responsibility

That would be my preference. As stated, I know its open to any members here, I would prefer for that content to not come up during google searches or be open to someone just visiting.

I don't look at pages or say things I'm worried about SWMBO knowing about, I have other concerns, but for those who have that issue, that would be equally valid.
