a few here know what i've been thru in the last year but here's a quick overview: a year ago sept 18, the M.I.L.'s house flooded due to a broken pipe in the night & she came here to stay during the repairs. two weeks later, she had a heart attack & we almost lost her in the living room floor. two weeks after that the fire & the months of dealing with the aftermath of that. before we know it, may is here & the mrs. has her knee scoped, which leads to scheduling a july date for a total replacement. that puts me under the gun to get the shop here up & running so i can get a little work done & take care of her at the same time. that leads to dr.'s appts & rehab almost every day & during that time, my workday usually started around 3-4pm & went until the wee hrs most nights for almost 3 months. during all of this, we have to put our "little dog" down, which was hard after 14 yrs. two weeks ago, she completes rehab & the dr releases her to go back to work. yahoo! things are going to FINALLY get back to normal! but wait... shes back at work for three days & my olde english bulldog gets sick. take him to the vet tues morning, they run tests but don't see anything. he gets worse, so we spend the days at the vet, then bring him home nights & stay up taking care of him until time to get him back to the vet in the mornings. friday night, he seemed better, so we got our first sleep since tues. we got 4 hrs because we had to get up early sat & run IV fluids & give shots at 5am. sat evening. he gets worse so at 2:30am, we head out to the emergency vet with him. by 6am, his heart rate is 280 & his breathing is getting very labored, so we had to make "the decision". still no answers on what the problem was, but i think it was cancer (& wont go into details as to why i think that). the local guys who have been here know he was more than just a dog, with "humanlike" personality. when i was still working the day job, he went with me every day & once i started here, he was my company during the day & my riding buddy when i went for supplies or to ship parts. it sure is quiet here now...

i know it WILL get better eventually, but until then, if anyone is looking for my place, it's at the bottom of the hill, where the s*** rolls to... :hide

So sorry to hear the latest news Steve. It's always tough when we lose a family member, whether it be human or animal. You're a good man and I'm sure things will turn around for you.

Things will get better.....we all have been neighbors at the bottom of that same hill.

Hang in there Steve....the only good thing about being at the bottom of the hill is that there's no where to go but up. Hopefully you will start that journey soon.

Wow, sounds like things have been pretty rough. Sorry to hear about all your troubles.
It can only get better though right. Keep your head up.

you forgot the May flood. I don't think you were under water but I recall it was all around you.. :roll sorry. Anyway, hope things work out for your dog. I know that is hard. The other things can be a huge weight too, make sure you get drunkl once in a while and just forget it all for a few hours, that's what I do! :beer

Steve, so sorry to hear, watching him mosey around the yard like an elephant in a china shop was fun. I know the feeling after having to put down our 16yo dog as a teen due to a stroke. I wanted to get by last weekend so maybe I can sneak away this coming weekend and see if I can lend a hand on the shop or one of the cars or just bs if you have time.
Jon

thanks guys. i quit asking "whats next?" a long time ago & started asking "geez, when will it end?" i know it WILL get better, but i'm really getting tired... i look in the mirror & think i've aged 10 yrs in the last one, probably 5 in the last week. i see more of that "gray stuff" creeping in all the time :shrug

jon, i know you have been here many times & probably knew my lil buddy best. you should have been here tues when we got back from our first vet trip. they gave him a bag of fluid under his skin so he ran around the yard like you described with a big lump on his back. i was calling him "daddy's little buffalo". there will never be another one like him...

Steve,
Very sorry about all the crap you are going thru. When the time is right, and you go out and get another pup, post some pics and I'll have a doggie toy in the mail.

will do! it will be a while though. gonna take some time to get over this one before i'll be able to allow myself to get attached to another.

A few years back , I lost my younger brother ( suicide ) , then a few months later , I lost my job which I did for 14 years , and a year later , I lost my father who had dementia.
It was a tough/hard time for me and my family but always have in mind : after rain come sunshine .
