A replicator wouldn't hurt either. And we're almost there with 3d printers.

I know it's a little OT from impulse drive, but since the 3d printer was mentioned.......
I saw a show the other night about it's inventor and how long it has actually been around. Due to the extremely high initial cost very few were sold for years and years. The company the inventor formed almost went belly up. Jump ahead to current times and due to the cost being so low, there are folks using them in third world countries to "print" inexpensive prosthetic devices for poor people who couldn't otherwise afford them. And here I thought just fast prototyping car parts was a cool use for them!
