installing thermostat housing.

stupid subject but here it goes. my 1970 has the vacuum lines that go to this vacuum tee right on top of the thermostat housing. i bought a nice new chrome thermostat housing and it doesnt have that port for the tee. is it possible to relocate that tee anywhere else? i did buy a new performer intake and there was a spot on top of the intake behind the carb that i plugged up. is it possible to relocate it there or no? otherwise i need to put the ugly stock one back in there with a new chrome intake i just got. any ideas?

How can a vacuum line even work in a water jacket area?? I don't remember ever seeing that one before.

That T is a thermostatically (water temp) controlled vacuum unit. The original distributor probably had a dual vac. canister for emission control. It would retard the timing on decel I believe. I threw the one out on my Dad's 71 F100/302.

OK, heat controlled vacuum, that my simple mind understands, just have never seen one.

Yup, hoses go to the distributor and likely a modulator box.

If you aren't concerned with originality, you can remove the system and cap off one of the tees. Otherwise, I think the 5.0L have a port in the same location but the angle of the neck is 90 instead of the stock 45

I'd can the vacuum switch and plug the retard side of the vacuum advance. Are you still running the original dizzy?

Yeah basically same dizzy, just upgraded it with the pertronix 3, the edelbrock Performer intake has an open port towards the back of the intake is it possible to use that? Really just want it to run with out any problems after this . I may have to go with
That 90 degree housing.

Re: installing thermostat housing.

No. That is vacuum only and always on. There is no coolant there to operate the vsv.

Run the advance side to ported vacuum on the Carb and plug the retard side. It should be fine.

I used to trash that thing. On my 72 and on any of that vintage Fords, I trashed the vsv. On both my 67 and 65 I have the vacuum advance plugged off. Both have performers on them.

In the near future I am getting a mechanical advance dizzy for both cars.

I am glad to see you found a solution. This site just rocks for that very reason.
