Insurance....again.....

Searched but had some questions....

I recently purchased a beater 93 Ranger for future use. In getting it on the road, I ran into a problem with State Farm....my long time regular company. Since this is an addition (not replacement) to my policy, they hit me with 240/6 months, liability/uninsured only. If I was to replace my '66 with this....(which the deal will finalize Sat. and could do)....Ranger policy wise....it would be 190/6 months. I bitched about the difference when our credit rating is thru the roof, driving record is spotless, and I have been with them since the 70's plus this is a multi car policy. I walked out. The '11 and '66 are still with them.

Didn't like the situation and needed to get this done to get it tagged. Went to GEICO and for the same coverage on the Ranger, 180/6 months....no issues what so ever and it is the only one I did there. Twenty mins. and I was out the door. Full coverage on my '11 GT/CS would be 200/6 months which is less than State Farm at 320/6 months. They do not care about longevity with them.

After this weekend and the '66 is gone, I can actually switch the Ranger back to State Farm as a replacement. I have no complaints with SF in the years past but have not needed to use them in 10+ years.

Any thoughts....switch or not.....quality....experience with GEICO....

And the required pic.....of our redneck Ranger.....(only the front tool box included)

had GEICO many years until this year when they couldn't match combining house/auto with Progressive. Never had a claim with GEICO, but they did help me out when I was out-of state once and needed to get a windshield replaced (not covered because of my deductible) the same day. They located a place in their network that had one in stock and had me out within 3 hours total and with a discount.

I have had Geico for about five years now. I have never had to call them, I switched from Farmers because they were charging me 600/6 for a 1989 jeep Cherokee Laredo.

What's up with the big companies ripping off boys in their early twenties.

First, is that a 2010 Sunset Gold vert in the background? Sweet!

As for insurance, have you checked into USAA since you are retired USAF? They are tough to beat. We just switched to Liberty Mutual and they were a ton lower than State Farm. The switch saved us just shy of $800/yr.

Old......yep.....beginning to think the bigger companies are just plain ripping PEOPLE off.....

Not my Vert in the background.....that belongs to the seller.

No plans but to drive the crap out of it as I am in the position of needing a truck to make life easier.

Will check USAA again....last time they were a bit high....hmmmmm

Did you know that GEICO stands for Government Employee Insurance Company originally aimed at certain fed. employees and military enlisted? The dang Gecko has been around since 2000........

I used to shop insurance every year. Face it. The days of some sort of discount because you're a loyal customer are over. Allstate is advertising about money back if you stay a certain amount of time so maybe they realize the error of their ways. But Allstate is usually more expensive anyways.
Shop around and move ALL your vehicles. Multi-car discount. And let SF know why....not just the agent...write SF HQ.

I will move them all once I decide where to move them too. Another thing about the new agent that took over the office..... She has young dogs at work....not a problem for me as long as they are controlled. When I was in there for this change, there was a medium sized pit bull wandering the office freely. He continued to detect my dog on me and I had this nose always at my leg. I would push him away which did no good. They even tried to control the dog and it would listen for a few seconds and be right back. I don't need to battle a pet while trying to conduct business.....and my wife refuses to enter the building....which I don't blame her.

I will notify SF of the entire situation as soon as I relocate my policies. So far, GEICO looks good.

I second looking at USAA. Their service is terrific and I have found their pricing to be very good. I use them for everything.

Guys, since I've been in the collision and glass business for over forty years, I have dealt with them all. Basically what all of them want is your premium every month for years and NO CLAIMS. Like I have told people for years is you will find out what kind of company you have the first time you turn a claim in. They want the body shop to use the cheapest parts and the glass shops to go in the hole to install a windshield. other than that I just love them to DEATH. Rich.

I've worked in insurance claims for 20+ years (sorry Rich) and it's true, you find their true colors when a claim is filed. My advice is to read the policy before you need it. FYI, USAA is consistently rated the highest for customer service (I do not work for them.)

We have USAA. With a loaded full coverage policy on my wife's 07 Tacoma and my 07 Silverado crew cab, it's around $900/6 months.

Pete,
FWIW, I've had 2 accidents charged to me recently; first was 5-6 years ago I slid into the rear of a truck on rain slick road, totally my fault. 2nd this summer bumped a truck in a private drive, tiny damage, but it was a big shiny dandy truck. Both claims were handled by State Farm, no problems, no hassles, no raised rates, just cheerfully took care of them. I ain't even gonna look at others.

+1. Had two claims in the last five years, both my fault, and no questions. My rates did increase due to loss of the safe driver discount, but hell, I totaled a Volvo in my driveway (backed into it. FWIW, Dodge Ram bumpers are stout).

In addition, when I compare apples to apples, the Gieco & Progressive quotes are w/in 30-40 bucks of what I'm paying State Farm now. I talked with my agent, and if he drops coverage to what Geico quotes, it's a few $ less.

Now boat insurance, Progressive is ~$100 less per year - BUT, they have times of the year I'm not allowed to use the boat, so pretty sure that is the difference.

Tried Liberty Mutual, but couldn't get the website to cooperate :wtf
