Interesting Maglite factoid

Sacbill

Hard Swinger
I was at the hardware store looking for a new light bulb for my mini Maglite. The guy at the store asked me why I didn't just use the one that was under the cap. Huh?

It seems as though Maglites have a spare xenon bulb stored in the screw-in base cap under the spring...including the one I'd brought to the store with me. Am I the only person who didn't know this?

Nope, never knew that, neither did I know there were tabs on the box's of aluminum foil to push in to ease rolling.

Yep, handle with a hankie or glove when you change it. Maglite is your friend. Heck I dropped one in the lake near the shore where we parked the boat, found it a month later when I accidentally stepped on it, after washing the mud off, hit the switch adn it worked. Good lights.

Many people have seen mine up close and personal.

The crappy thing is when you blow out the second bulb. There are some you can get that are super bright. I forget what they are called, it's been a long time.

I switched over to the Streamlight rechargable, it is brighter and easier to carry. No as good for defense though.

The mini mags usually had/have the spare inserted in a little plastic holder that fit into the base. In all of the minis I have the bulb holder is red. The bigger C and D cell models have them in the foam under the spring.

NOw a days you've gotta clean it with a 10% solution of bleach and wait 30 seconds before you can use it again. If not, you will be fined by the EPA, CDC, ANA, and various other governmental agencies. Defense?

Do you knw how to use it as a candle?

Unscrew the top and use it as a base. Lights up an area....good in a tent.

Figured that out the hard way. I forgot to pull the batteries when changing the bulb and blinded myself.
