I am considering getting an iPad2 for the wife.

How could I tether the iPad to her iPhone?

What iphone does she have and what version OS is she running?
3g and 3gs phones will only tether via bluetooth, iphone 4 can be used as a wifi hotspot. OS needs to be up to date on both devices, I think it's 4.3.2 now.

She's got a 3GS and I believe she's up to date on the OS.

Depending on the carrier, you might need tethering added to the account. You'll need to tether them via bluetooth to use the 3g service on the phone.

We have AT&T and they offer a tether option.

Of course, they charge 'extra' for that. I don't get why they charge extra for tethering. It should be completely based upon the amount of data that's used....

I don't understand it and need to speak to an apple freak to 'get it'...

Yea, the tethering charge is bs. You can try to connect them and see if it works. Might be able to go under the radar with it.

The new ATT Elevate 4G/LTE hot spots are sweet. Getting crazy fast download speeds in LTE markets.

And the iPad 2 is definitely a better device than the 1st gen. Worth the extra money IMO.

We recently picked up a iPad 2 for the wife and they told us that it's an additional fee for tethering as well.

We got the 64GB 3G/wifi model and seems to be doing fine with all the wifi in town and at home.

I agree, we already over pay for our iPhones, can't we get a break with some kind of bundle deal like the insurance companies.
