As many times as I have sworn I would never again buy a new car...I am getting close to pulling the trigger. Worse, it's not a mustang. Or even a Ford.

The main reason for the addition is my oldest son getting his license. Between all his sports practices, games and other activities he needs a car almost full time. It is just too much for me or his mother to take him and drop him off all the time. It's even harder now with his younger brother starting sports himself. I had always intended on making the Sport Trac his vehicle as it seems to me to be perfect for his use. He can throw all the football gear and such in the back and the interior is pretty much made to be cleaned with a hose so mud isn't a big deal. If he takes my DD I need something to get around in that would also be used by he and his mom.

Anyway, with the pricing of used cars and the financing available on new it makes more sense in some ways to go new. Here's what I'm thinking about getting. Thoughts?

Test drive the Mustang 5.0 first. Challenger has the horsepower and is a few thousand $s cheaper, but is heavier and lacks Mustang's looks and resale value. I couldn't find the hemi's mpg either. The 5.0 puts out 402 hp on 87 octane with 26 mpg hwy. That used not to be an issue when 92 octane was 20 cents more but at 35 cents more? The 5.0 is just a better package all around and if keep your cars 5+ years a better value IMO.

I'm kinda with jack....I like the Challenger and the 5.0 as well as the new Camaro.

I think you should drive all three.

I have taken the V6 Mustang and the V6 Camaro on vacations and, well the Mustang is much more comfy. The V6 on both cars have tons of power.

I need to drive the Challenger. I think there is a company renting the V6 model, so maybe our next road trip.

I do have to admit as far as the V6 is considered, the Camaro was far better being evaluated in the seat, but the visibility is better in the Mustang. The Camaro is like driving in a football helmet.

So, if I were you I would drive all three and all the trim levels that interest you. The Mustang V6 get 30+ mpg on highway with 300+ HP.

Why would anyone buy a car from a company that demanded a bailout from the American taxpayer?

I'm actually considering (can't believe it myself!) a 3.5L V6. The 2011 output is up to 305 H.P. about 50 more ponies than the 2010. I would never have thought to pass on a V8 but because my son would be driving it as well for insurance purposes it makes more sense. Mileage is nice too. If I did go Mustang I could never pass up the new 5.0 and that would never fly with having a 16 year old boy on the insurance.

From a cosmetic standpoint, for the first time ever (I've had 60's, 80's and newer Mustangs), I actually like the Challenger over the Mustang. I don't like the back of the new Mustang at all. The interior is kinda plain on the Challenger but it also larger and can actually sit 5 adults.

I've never driven one so I plan to do that tonight and see how it feels. For now, money is still really cheap. I don't see that lasting much longer so now does seem the time to bite the bullet, in that sense.

Sure. Bring my conscious into it. You bastard. It was hard enough to try and justify betraying the Blue Oval and now you bring this up...

Go ahead and buy from Gov motors, next thing you know you'll turn into a lib demanding we pay for your new car purchase.

So all I have to do is bow at the feet of the messiah and you'll pay for my car?

Don't buy a gm, they just had a recall for steering wheels falling off or something like that in some cars.

As for the challenger vs mustang, I'd take a 5.0 over a challenger.

Oh and my dd....07 silverado. Bought cheap, pre-bailout cuz the dealer thought they were gonna go bankrupt.

I've had my 2011 Mustang for 8 months now, and I love it more than the day I drove it home. The fit and finish is excellent, the seats are comfortable, and it drives like a dream...actually very quiet too. The Microsoft Sync is just plain awesome; everything is voice command from radio stations to phone calls.

I do like the exterior looks of the Challenger, and even the Camaro, but when you sit in and drive the Mustang, there is no looking back. Ford hit a homerun with the 2011+ Mustang, V6 and GT.

Good luck in your decision, and hopefully the Mustang prevails!

Hell no, not me. I don't buy into that redistribution shart, but you might try one of those Texas guys :roll

I drove a hemi Challenger at the last track day in 2010. I was instructing the first session, but it was at slower speeds, so I never got to hammer on it. It was still respectable. Power was comparable to anything else, but it felt bulky and overweight. The brakes were outstanding though!

See this is why I liked the idea of a 6 cylinder Mopar. I've spent far too much time this afternoon rethinking the Mustang option. Here's where I have ended up now...

Yellow Blaze GT (have to see one in person but it looks like a killer color)
6 Speed Manual (really like this as the Mopar didn't allow a manual with the V6)
3.73 gear
Brembo Brakes
19" Wheels (I don't typically like big wheels but they seem to fit well with the new car and they are part of the brake pkg)

Here's where it gets stupid. I'm starting down the path I took with my Roush. Did you guys know there was a 2.3L twin-screw supercharger kit for these things?! 625 factory warrantied HP?!

oh, man I'm in trouble...

A buddy of mine had a 05 or 06 vert with the V6. It wasn't bad, but then he added the SC and it really would haul the mail.

Get the Mustang so we won't have to bash your support of commie motors.

Since no one really answered the original question....YES....it is.

I don't care for the back of the '10+ Mustang either.....then I figured when I would see it vs a cheap interior or hard to see out of windows......I got the GT/CS for sure. Now, I just keep trying to get a quick enough take off to straighten out the tail lights. lol

Well, SWMBO told me she couldn't do the V6 because it wouldn't sound right. Well darn it, that is what the 65 and 67 is for....

Besides who cares if you are laying down a big smokey dual wheel burn out?

Going to take a drive tomorrow to check this one out. I want to see the color in person but it looks pretty sharp in the pics. We've already have three black vehicles at home now so this one would be a nice change. As long as the insurance man doesn't kill it I think we have a winner.

What do you all think? I like the idea of doing some matte black accents ala vintage Mach 1.
