Is Santa Real?

Dave,
Got a small problem here and could use your advice.

My sons 8 and every year he leaves milk and cookies for santa. he eats them and the leaves a note for him and his 6 year old sister. This year he left a note and said " Santa please sign your name here so i can prove your real"

Santa signed it and said thanks for the cookies.

Now he wants to bring it to school and prove to his friends that santa is real. What the heck should I do?
I dont want my son looking like a fool.
Nor do I want my 6 year old daughter to be told Santa isnt real.

It would break his heart if he found out I think,

With a sister 2 years younger than me, I was in the same situation as a young'n. My dad took me into the living room, as we had a formal living room at the time that nobody ever used except for special occasions. At the age of 6 or 7 at the time, it may have been only the 2 time or so I was ever allowed in the living room so it was a big deal. My dad sat in one of the big chairs and I in the other, and he told me about Santa and the spirit of giving. I was told is was a grown up secret and that I couldn't tell my friends or my sister about it. In my case, it was right before Christmas, and I was allowed to stay up late Christmas eve to help put out the gifts. Of course I didn't get to see them all as there were still some surprises for me the next morning, but I remember taking the secret seriously and the priviledge of being "Santa" until my sister found out a couple years later.

I've had the reverse situation. I never taught my children there was a Santa Claus. I have always tried to instill in them the REAL reason for the holiday. My boy always wants to tell his friends at school there isn't a Santa Claus, but I told him that other people think what they want, just to keep it to himself.

I do agree with the talk to my son and think I will have this talk with him soon. I do believe that Christmas is a magical and special holiday for all and want to convey that to him. Even though he might not show up for real you never know :)

He is starting to figure it out and is thinking alot about it. He got a red rider BB gun and it was so cool to make his carboard box and take him shooting. Of course he pinched his finger the first time while pumping it :)
But what a blast!

Seeing my children's eyes Christmas morning is priceless

The magic of Santa Claus in a child's eyes is one of the most wonderful things in the world. All too soon that magic is gone. Keep the magic alive on your end as long as possible.

Eventually his peers will convince him, but when he's older he'll thank you for keeping the magic alive, even when no-one else did.

Dave,
Your right. I do appreciate your advise. That is exactly what I will do.

Dave's correct. When my son was young, I had dressed up as Santa and my nephews and nieces all were in heaven.

This joy lasted until he was 6 or 7. Ahh the memories.
