I'm sure most of the country hasn't heard this story but a man working for the New York State DEP was shot and killed by a coworker in their office on Monday. The story is sad and senseless enough but I found out Tuesday that the man killed is a second cousin of my girlfriend. She isn't particularly close with that side of the family and had never met him but that news hit pretty hard. I then received an email yesterday from a friend and found out that the man who was killed was married to a friend from college who I haven't seen in a while. Susan is left with a 2 year old son and a 6 week old daughter to raise on her own. It just tears me up me to hear about this. She is a great person and I know she has the strength to pull through but the thought of two kids losing their dad before they even know him is incredibly sad.
