It's time for the 3.25 gears!!!!

I have the '90 5.0 HO/AOD in the '66 so I really need to toss the 2.80 gears (8") in the rear and go to some 3.25's. Does anyone have a set of 3.25's they would like to donate/sell/let me steal...lol. It's tough to get the aod to shift into o.d. until about 65 -70 mph sometimes. I would like it to shift out at around 55-60 mph. Do ya'll think the 3.25's would accomplish that compared to the 2.80 gear set? I am running 205/60R/15's on craigar ss rims. Thanks, Gary.

3.25 was a very common ratio with factory cars using an AOD, so yes, I'd say that 3.25 should be a good match for the AOD.

However, for a little more "pep", I'd go to a 3.50 ratio.

I'm with Dave. I have an AOD in my '66 and 3.50 gears (although it's a 9") in the rear. I went from 2.80's to the 3.50's and couldn't be happier. It shifts in to OD around 55 mph.

Thanks, John. I believe that you are right about needing the performance that the higher ratio would give me. I would like to see it shifting right at 55 mph so that's what I will go with. I'll start looking for a set of 3.50's this week. I think they come in a 3.55 iirc. :vic

I'm running 3.0 gears in Red and also wish I had gone 3.25 or 3.50. Might take a break from Shag and do a swap one of these coming days.

I'm running 3:50 somethings in the 65 with a TKO and fifth gear is right at 60 or so. I have 3:00 in the 67 it is a real pain.

While you are at it you should go with some sort of Limited Slip rear. I did that on the 65 and can't wait to get it for the 67. Best thing I have done to date on that car!

I put the 3:25's in my 66 with 302 & Auto, it had the 2:80's. Wow what a difference! It really woke the car up getting off the line! I wouldn't go any higher than 3:25's with an Auto.

Put 3:73's in my Foxbody with an AOD... didn't like it so much. But, I don't really care for auto's anyway.
Put a close ratio T5 in... muuuuch better!!

There's a huge difference in a 3 speed auto and a 4 speed, override transmission. You really don't want anything LESS than 3.50 with any kind of overdrive, IMHO, whether it's an automatic or manual.

Well, I would make one exception to your statement, as I am going with a Kenne Bell Supercharger and the boost comes on almost instantly, I think a 3.00 will be perfect to keep the tire spin down and the SC can handle the rest!

Get wider tires :)

If you dont mind used gears I think I have a set of 3:25 out of my fox. It was an AOD car. Ill look monday. PM me

I assume that the OP is using an 8" rearend.... will your old Fox 8.8" 3.25 gears work? I wouldn't think that they would.
