Yes I do like to watch network television. Even though they continue to cancel the good shows, and move them around to different days and time slots. But this "experiment" that they did moving Jay to 5 nights a week in prime time was destined to fail. Never liked Conan, IF I want to watch something late night now it is Letterman. Why does Jay have to be on 5 times a week? Why not 2 or maybe 3 nights? Friday night for sure, that is the death slot for any network show. How about Monday, Tuesday and Friday? Or Tuesday and Friday? Jay is a great dude and better yet a car dude as well. So NBC is going to bend over and kiss him to keep him on because he makes $$ for them. So it will be interesting to see what will happen after the Winter Games. fd
 
I dont understand why he left the tonight show to begin with. I like him and the show, it just interfered with 2.5 men at the later slot, so I rarely watched it. I did enjoy the 9PM show though.

Because NBC wanted to keep Conan. They promised him the Tonight Show if he would stay and continue doing the Later Show or whatever it was called. I thought that Jay wanted to retire, or was NBC pushing him out. This all started what 3 to 5 years ago. fd
 
Back in 2004 NBC in order to keep Conan offered up the Tonight Show in 2009.....He signed the contract. 2009 comes along and Jay/Tonight show is still top rated in the time slot (had been for 14 of 17 years). Contract with Conan was for the Tonight show so NBC fires Jay. But wait he has a contract for a show, prpbably didn't state the Tonight Show. So they plop Jay at 10 and put Conan in the Tonight show. Jay numbers are bad. Conan had better numbers in his old time slot and Letterman is winning. NBC idiots don't have a clue what to do. My guess is that they pay off Conan's contract. He flips to Fox and Jay is back in the Tonight Show.
That's my WAG at it.
 
Letterman is having a field day with this. I know there is no love lost between Leno and Letterman, but last night he had real fun with the issue. He invited all parties to HIS show to work it out. Oh and Jay could hang out in a closet, guess he did something like that 17 years ago when they were trying to decide between Dave and Jay. Dave did :dh but it was still funny. fd
 
Conan had the best joke in his monologue the other night:

"You know, it's always been my fondest dream to host the Tonight Show, and my dream came true. It just shows you, like you tell your kids, when you grow up, you can do anything you want...



...unless Jay Leno wants it, too."
