All,
I haven't been around here much at all lately. Life has become incredibly busy. Wonderful, but busy. My daughter's marching band, the Lassiter Trojan Marching Band, is going to New York this week to participate in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Any excuse for Travel is a good excuse to me! So while my daughter is in New York, living it up with her bandmates, my wife and I are (independently) flying up to NYC (after dumping the 4 year old with Grandma) to live it up in our own way, and catch the parade on Thanksgiving Morning.
IF anyone watches the parade, ever, they will be performing on NBC at 10:44AM. We have been busting our butts this week getting everything together and ready for this trip. We've spent so much scratch that I wonder if I'll ever recover! But to see how excited she is, and how proud we are of all the hard work that being in this band has been, and to see her stick to it, even when she was crying that she couldn't keep up the practice schedule and her homework and her social life and blah blah blah, she refused to give up, and knew that was never an option. She just stuck to it, and despite getting some major shock about how much independence and responsibility High School is compared to Middle School, she worked her tail off to bring her failing Advanced Literature grade up to a B. I couldn't be more proud of her...not for succeeding (Though, let's be honest, that's what we all hope for for our kids) but for working and working and working, no matter how tough it got, no matter how hopeless it seemed. So we are insanely proud, and though I can think of 1,457 things I'd rather do than stand out in the cold in NYC and watch a parade (Even a parade with big balloons) I will be up early thusday morning to get a front row seat, and, as I told my wife, "I'll gladly stand there for 5 hours waiting and watching crap I couldn't care less about, all for the 17 seconds as my daughter walks by."
In the midst of all of this, my work has become intense and insane. I'm grateful for the week off I will be getting, but know it means that showing back up on next Monday morning, it's gonna be even more insane. I've talked to some of you about it, but for those that don't know, I'm a (very minority) partner in a small software startup. We have been going for years out of the owner's wallet, trying to build (and sell) one incredibly advanced system. We seem to have finally struck a little gold, and hopefully have a VERY big and exciting contract starting up soon. I think that's all I'm allowed to say about it, but it's exciting times in our company's history. To be frank, this is make or break. If we cannot pull of something soon, we're going to have to give it up. If we do, then, while I probably won't get rich, it will mean I'll have a lot more options in life, and hopefully a little "Eff-You Money" to keep me sane in the future.
Thanks all for indulging this post. I really miss spending a lot of time here, and miss this place a lot. Unfortunately, almost anytime I come here I end up spending a long time reading posts, and so I've kinda had to pull back while going through these crazy times.
My Email and PMs still work, so if anyone does need me, I'll be glad to get involved.
If I don't get a chance to say it before next week, A Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and yours.
