Just kept walkin'

I live about an hour northwest of Atlanta, just on the edge of nothing as my real estate agent would say, with lots of farms and ranches beyond my area. Its a nice little HOA with large homes that are well cared for. Just down the street is an auto parts store. I was there perusing some tools and overheard the counter person talking to a customer. She looked to be a young lady in her late 20s. This is the part of the conversation I overheard her say: "I live at the end of a dirt road, it was night, the kids were in bed and I was on the front porch. This guy comes walking up the road toward my house. I stood up, pulled my gun off my hip and chambered a round. He heard it and just kept walkin' looking at me real nervous".
Hee, Hee gotta love a momma protecting her young. The NRA is real big here in the South.

I'm down in Kennesaw pretty regularly, we have a big R&D center there. Nice area. In Kennesaw it's law that you have to own a gun.

That's true; if you are a homeowner in Kennesaw you are required to own a gun. I live in an adjacent city 20 minutes away from my cousin who lives there. I had to chuckle when she told me that. Look me up, I'd love to see your car.

Cool, I will. Motor is still scattered all over right now but I often use trips down there from Kentucky as shake down runs. It be great to meet up.

Here's one I always liked:
This happened on a flight getting ready to
depart for Detroit.
Jack was sitting on the plane when a guy
took the seat beside him. The guy was an
emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking,
moaning in fear.
"What's the matter?" Jack asked.
"I've been transferred to Detroit, there's
crazy people there. They've got lots of
shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs,
poor public schools, and the highest
crime rate."
Jack replied, "I've lived in Detroit all my life.
It's not as bad as the media says. Find a
nice home, go to work, mind your own
business, enroll your kids in a nice private
school.
It's as safe a place as anywhere in the world."
The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said,
"Oh, thank you. I've been worried to death.
But if you live there and say it's OK, I'll take your
word for it. What do you do for a living?"
"Me?" said Jack. "I'm a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck."

she just made one mistake, she left the chamber empty and had to chamber a round. the chamber should have been loaded and then all she would have to do is cock the hammer.

You should never have to chamber a round if you're carrying. Cocked and locked so it's ready if you need it.

I wouldn't argue with the girl, since she's carrying! Its fine with me if she has to chamber a round; besides the noise got the guys attention. Probably just another level of safety because of the kids. I'm guessing that was a once in a lifetime situation.

at least she was alert enough to be able to rack a round into the chamber. but oyu do have a point about having the gun with kids around.

Julie showed me a t-shirt at the feed store last weekend she wanted. It said:

COUNTY GIRL
Not afraid to love a man...
Not afraid to shoot one either!

Unfortunately they did hot have her size.

In our neighborhood in Southern Utah everyone has multiple firearms, 25%or more are retired LEOs and many former military.

If there are strangers walking around they don't get ten feet without someone who may or may not be armed asking what they are doing there.

When the gas station a couple miles up the road was robbed by some Vegas gang banger the phone tree was activated that the clown was taking refuge in our subdivision. Within two minutes there was have the residents on the porch with rifles, shotguns and handguns.

The add all the dogs in the neighborhood and it equals no bueno for banditos.
