I just got an email that my friend Roy Mytinger passed on April 16, 2011 peacefully. He had Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS)

Here is a pic from the day he drove the GT500 out to my parents home and one from his facebook page.

sorry for your loss. stay strong and keep your head up. he is in a better place and free of pain and his disease

Well, I can certainly understand where you are coming from, Tim! I am so sorry for your loss. ALS sucks, took my youngest brother last year.

The best thing you can do is start or join a fund to help others with this awful disease!

So sorry for your loss!

Mel

Sorry for your loss, that is the same dreaded desease that took my dad when he was only in his 50's.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. We will keep you in our thoughts.

My wife and I donate to a different random charity every month. I think May just became ALS month.
Do you know if the family has a fund going or of a reputable charity for ALS?

You can donate to the ALS research fund, but most of what they do is try to find a cure. Not that this is a bad thing, but the people suffering from this crap end up not qualifying for any aid until they sell everything and end up in a home.

My brother has a scholarship fund he set up and a fund on his website I think. http://www.friendsforfrank.com There is a link for ALS association which is a good one to donate to.

Frank had a saying "Big fat love" That is now the scholarship fund.

I don't want to hijack Tim's thread, but those are the only places I know of to donate to.

I have found that the person afflicted with anything that will cost a fortune or cause death does not receive much in the way of help. In my experience most of the money donated to most charities goes for administrative costs and not the actual research and or incidental costs during treatment.

So my advice is to be sure to check out each charity carefully and donate wisely.

Thanks for the desire to donate! It is great of you to do this. May God bless you for your generosity!

Mel

My condolences. I lost my best friend a year and a half ago to ALS, he was a real car guy and the last thing we did together was a car show. Keep the happy memories, ALS is a tough road to travel.
