I found this setting with a For Sale sign on it Sunday. The asking price was $6,000. I met the guy last night and offered him $3,500. As that is the price of the motorcycle he is wanting to buy he accepted. Now the phone call to the bank.

The car,
Driven daily
302, Edelbrock 4brl, Edelbrock performer intake, C4, AC, AS, PB, Original interior in perty good shape, duals w/turbos that have holes in them, no body damage I can see, weatherstriping is SHOT, has over 200,000 miles on the car, using about a quart of oil per week. Original family car. Kid was given car by grandfather befor he passed.

I'll post more info if the bank says I can park it in my driveway.

Cool. What would really sweeten the deal is if the kid allowed you to take out a life insurance policy on him.

Yeah, don't worry too much. I bet that car needs quite a bit of work to make it a dependable driver... like engine rebuild, suspension & brakes rebuild, etc. You might as well look at it like you're not going to have a solid car this summer, and give yourself until next year to find something new. Also, if you save more cash, you'll be able to put more money into your purchase. It's a lot cheaper to buy a car that has had already restored, instead of fixing it up yourself.

If I were you, I'd just focus on selling your 66 right now. As frustrating as it is at this point in time, patience wins in the end.

Maybe its just me and bad luck but everytime we get anything saved, something crappy happens and the money gets spent on bills, or whatever. Thats my fear. It took 12yrs just to be able to get my 66, and I have a feeling if I sell it and try to save the money and save more, something bad will happen and the money will be gone and cycle will repeat again, and again, and again. That's why I'm still a little hesitant to sell my 66. What if I sold it and I'm never able to get another Mustang. I'd kick myself in the butt over that. I'd rather have a POS ugly Mustang that runs than none at all! :vic

Now if the Marine Corps would stop screwing over husband and give him his separation pay he was entitled to, then I could afford to buy a fully restored Mustang and still have money left over for him to buy his dream car, a classic Vette and then we'd both be in heaven. :lol

Just make sure you keep enough for the next crappy thing to happen. At least you had the money saved to pay for the crappy things. It coulda been worse.

As a matter of perspective, many people would be glad they had the money squirreled away to cover those inevitable things that happen. And make no mistake they will continue to happen. That's life.

You have to remember that this car you want is a luxury. A very expensive luxury. It's also a terrible investment. If after the mortgage and all the bills, your kid's needs, college savings, retirement investments, etc. you still have the cash...go for it. If you don't, then maybe you should be waiting. The day will come, I promise, if it is really what you want.

I completely get where you are at and feel. My cars and hobbies spent the better part of the last two decades in pretty much a state of limbo due to life (i.e. kids, job, etc.). I spent a little over a year and a half driving around in a used freakin' PT Cruiser (sorry Mark) so I could justify in my own mind spending the money to buy my "dream" car. I could have done it much sooner but to me all the other things had to come first. In the end, I waited a couple decades but couldn't be happier. OK, I could be a lot happier if I could actually find the time to work on it and maybe one day, I don't know...drive it!

I totally agree. I'm just one of those really impatient people. One of my down falls I guess. :craz

still want to know what a fienger is.

What are the details on this?

Long story...

Back in 1997 after bootcamp and in school, he screwed up his ankle. Had ankle pain and issues for several years. Went to Iraq in uh, 2005 I think it was. Messed his ankle up there even more (walking around on gravel, sand, etc). Got back to the states, seen Dr after Dr.. kept giving him motrin 800mg. :sur Eventually one Dr realized his ankle was seriously messed up and hubby got ankle reconstruction surgery end of 2005 to cut and retighten the tendons. He was put on limited duty, went through physical therapy. Ankle still messed up and unable to PT. Was put on a second limited duty...then a 3rd. Never got sent up to a med review. Over the course of his 3 limited duties, he had several Drs (they either got deployed, new duty station) and not one did the paperwork to send for a med review or kept putting off or giving him the run around. Hubby kept bugging everyone to get it done and bitching at people because he was being bitched at by his command because medical was sitting on their butts.

End of 2007 comes around. Hubby put in his reenlistment package. It was denied for medical. Forgot the DD214 code but its medical, no fault of his own, honorable discharge. Hubby bugged S1 (I think thats what it was lol) and more Drs about his ankle and review board crap. At this point it was getting close to his sep date (Feb 08) and too late to do the med board. Office folks in S1 or whatever were suppose to be doing his severance/sep paperwork. Never got done. Day he gets out, they say oops sorry we forgot to get that done.

Enlistment ends (after serving 12yrs). He contacts Naval Board of Corrections to get the sep pay he was entitled. They said he was suppose to get it and agreed with it. Took over a year to hear anything and finally they said he only gets half sep's pay because the last 3 years he served, he never ran a PFT... but he couldn't and wasn't allowed to run a PFT. He was given his half and we used some of it as a down on our house, past debts, and bought my 66 and his Lexus. Now he's trying to fight to get the rest of the money.

Basically he's being screwed out of half the seps pay because the Drs at Cherry Point and other folks 'forgot' to do the paperwork or kept putting off.

I wont even get into his VA problems. :lol

So how is his ankle now?

Still messed up. The surgery didn't fix anything. If anything, it made the pain worse. He can only stand/walk for short periods of time before it starts killing him. He can't even walk around the store for very long before he has to use a cart to lean on. He has also bad knee and back pain now too because of his ankle. He has to wear a special brace when standing or walking for long periods of time. He got the brace back in 2007 before he got out. Of course the brace is thick on the sole and it caused him to limp since one leg was higher than the other so the Drs ordered a special insert for the other foot so he didn't limp.

Still wondering........are you smiling or frowning....?

Well the bank said NO. Something about needing a credit rating :ep

I kind of have lived Kat's life. Got hurt at work. Sat home a year with no pay. Lost house, cars etc. Got to court and got 3 months of pay and sent on my way. Ended in chapt-7. Now a year later have NO Credit Score. Bank says need to establish credit. I said loan me money. They said NO. I said @#$@#$....Click.....hummmmmmmm :sur

Anyone want to buy a 73 Mustang? I know where one is at :)

Well....that sucks for sure. As I say...if it is meant to be....

Re-establishing credit is harder than the initial problems as a young person starting out. The only way I know is to find somewhere to borrow from, even if it is a high interest place. Just so you can make the payments. Cards help but again, gotta keep yourself out of trouble and do the payments. Or, just live on cash......but even that is hard in todays world.

It's one of those stuck between a rock and hard place. Kind of like if you need to buy a car, you need the money and to get the money you need a job but to get a job you need a car.

If that 73 ran, and was in TX... I'd try to get it. :craz

It does run. It's located in the next state over...

I brought mine home in pieces (U-Haul truck and trailer) 1100 miles. Don't limit yourself to just the area you live in. Couple hundred bucks or less will fly you a lot of places.
