Asphalt singles , wooden singles on the roof and house construction out of wood ( probably due to legislation) , perfect victims for the ginsterns flying around.
Bet in the next new building codes for Cali is sprinklers system on the roof.
At least I would do.

This is far worse than Maui, and will be comparable to the great Chicago fire and the San Francisco earthquake fire.
Home insurance will be next to impossible for California residents. Rebuilding efforts will take many years, perhaps decades.
I agree that roofing material is not good; here in AZ, we use tile roofs. The areas involved are considered chaparral, a bushy woodland highly flammable, in a hilly environment that is difficult to conduct fire controls. Fire hydrants are designed for 1-2 buildings on fire, not wide-spread wild fires.
