Ft. Walton Beach - Because of the failing economy, general motors decided to drop Pontiac from its long list of car models last year.
Pontiac has been around since the early 1900’s and has been a respectable brand of motor vehicles.
Lee GMC in Ft. Walton beach used to be known as Lee Pontiac, GMC. The dealership sold their first Pontiac in 1949 the same year they opened, so for this local dealership, to sell the last Pontiac in 2010, 61 years later, was a big honor.
"61 years later, man that's a long time. It means a lot! We've had a lot of them go through here and we've been known to be the Pontiac dealer here in Ft. Walton Beach for so long, so it's a pretty big deal," said Emerson Lee, Sales Manager.
Not only is the 2009 Pontiac Solstice pretty rare because it's the last one being sold in a dealership in the U.S. It's also rare because only around 1,100 of this model were made.
"Well there was only about 1,158 made with the hard top on it and it's just a rare car," said Lee.
Lee says he's sad to see the collector item go but it's the loyal Pontiac customers he's going to miss the most.
“The customers are loyal customers that bought them so many years and loved them and of course just the high performance vehicle itself," said Lee.
The Solstice will be leaving the Lee GMC’s show room on Monday. The new owner, a Miami man, is coming to pick up the last Pontiac to be sold in the nation.
As of November 1st the Pontiac brand will be officially disbanded, but Lee GMC says they will still service and honor any certified Pontiac warranties.
