Let's break something!

At the drag strip, with the combo below, give me your best guess as to what will break first (tranny? u-joints? rear-end? my wallet?)!

- Built 351W (HP & torque approx 340)
- OEM T5 from '92 V8 Mustang
- OEM driveshaft
- OEM u-joints
- OEM limited slip 8" rear with 28 spline axles, and
- Mickey Thompson drag radials

Just trying to anticipate the future parts list...
:craz

Yep, U-joints, drive shaft, 8"/axles, T-5.................the "OEM" is the killer...

How do you plan on launching the car?

You can probably make that combo hold together for a some time depending on your launch/shift.

I'd say the T5 based on my own experiance. I had a stock 85 GT, I broke the spider gears in the rear axle first, I think the 8" is stronger than the 7.5 in the 85 GT, After I switched to an 8.8 I broke the T5 multiple times!

Yeah, I'm guessing the T5. They really aren't designed for a lot of torque. Off-road guys won't touch stock T5's because they break output shafts all the time.

the guy I sold my 85 to put a C4 in it, drag raced it and it was a lot more reliable than the T5. Never broke the driveshaft or U-joints, or the 8.8.

My money is on the T5 or u-joints. The T5 might have a snowball's chance if it's got an aftermarket shifter, but I kinda doubt it. :hide :rofl

I'll say the T-5. I also had a 85 GT that had a built engine and the trans. blew apart using street tires. Those 265 rated trans just won't hold up to 340 HP.
