Sept 11, better known as 911..as a born and bred New Yorker..my heart still aches for all the lost souls in the World Trade center and the rest of the country..

I was born and raised in New Jersey Vinny, I lost friends there. It was a horrible day that I won't forget.

I will be foregoing a day full of college football on 9/11 and instead do some public service.

Deb, Ansel and I will be at the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City helping out with "Challenge Air" which gives kids with disabilities opportunities to learn about and experience the thrill of flight!

Should be a fun time.

My fraternity little brother had just walked into the lobby of the North Tower when it was hit. One of the elevators plummeted down (presumably the cable was severed) and blew out the doors in the lobby, and he turned around and started running, and fortunately was far enough away by the time it came down that he was ok.

I'm flying to West Palm Beach, FL on 9/11 this year for reserve drill.

I graduated from high school with a guy that was killed while working for Cantor Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center.

I took it rather personal and was happy when they invaded Afghanistan. Even seriously thought about enlisting however I was probably too old for the Army, etc to want me at that point and the boys were only 3 months old at the time 9-11 happened.

9/11 Will always be a tough day for me. Luckily I didn't loose any very close friends or family there. I was working in midtown manhattan at the time, what a scary day,it was like something out of a movie. I remember people on my desk talking to people at Cantor Fitzgerald maybe 5 minutes before the first plane hit. The guy that sat across from me(good friend and great guy) had a son that worked at Cantor.I remember as soon as it happened someone said look at the T.V. There was an airplane accident. I said B.S. That wasn't an accident.

I will never forget either, I was one of many on a United flight that day. My wife was home with the kids (just toddlers then) and oblivious to what was happening. Then the phone calls started coming in. Everyone knew I was flying and was asking if she heard from me. She turned on the news. As you recall they didn't know how many planes had been taken over. She was sick with worry.
I also didn't know what was going on. The pilot came on and said there was an attack on the US. we were all shocked, then he told us we had to land. We went to O'Hare and waited forever as every plane in the area was also forced to land. It was hours before I actually got off the plane. After many searches by armed police and dogs we were let off and then told to leave the airport, didn't matter where, just leave. I never saw so many planes on the ground. I think nearly every cop car was at O'Hare. My cell wasn't working and all I had was sketchy rumors. It was crazy. I eventually got in touch with my wife and got the full story. I didn't believe it until I was finally able to see it on the TV for myself. She was relieved I was okay.
I fly almost every week and have flown almost every 9/11 since, and still it haunts me. I would like to think I would have done what those brave people did on the flight that went down in PA.

Lets never forget

I was scheduled to fly up to Oakland 9 years ago today. After dropping my daughter off at the sitter I heard on the radio that ALL airports were shut down.
This is a pic from last year on vacation. Part of the temporary memorial wall set up for flight 93 that went down in Shanksville. It is a couple minutes ride on a gator from my aunts house. Needless to say 9 years ago I was a little worried about my aunt and uncle, because I was not able to get them on the phone as soon as I heard about flight 93.

Truly a sad day.
My dad is a corporate pilot and was actually flying that day. He was forced to land in Canada. IIRC I think he was there for a few days as the airspace in the US was shut down.

My Father in law had flight plans that day because he was leaving town on business.

They had just taken off when the order came down the pipe to shut down the air space so they returned to Houston.

He was lucky he didn't get stuck somewhere else for days on end and they brought them home instead.
