lifting a 460 and tranny

Typically I always chain an engine but am getting ready to remove a 460 out of a truck. Due to a bunch of other things I'm comtemplating removing the tranny along with it and am wondering if a lift plate (bolts onto intake and held in by carb screws) would support the weight of a 460 and tranny together. I'll have the room to remove/slant both as I'll be using the car lift to bring the engine out. Thoughts?

i've never liked lift plates. I feel its a lot of load on four little thread bolts. Why not just hook a chain (Ideally with a load leveler) from head to head diagonally. I bet there is tons of room to get that beast out.

here is what i mean on a much smaller scale.

That's what I always do. Problem on this one is the engine is so close to the firewall it's gonna be real tough. I may find some other places to secure it as I've never used the plate 'cause I can't seem to trust 4 little threaded bolts....even though many do. There is so little room I don't think I can get to the upper bolts in the bellhousing.

The weight of the engine alone is my biggest concern. I'll probably just wiggle the sucker loose using chains. Gonna be using the arms of the lift to get it out and just move the truck as needed.

there was a magazine that did a pull test on one of those plates using aluminum intake manifolds. i think they pulled to failure and it was an incredibly high force.

i recently installed the engine and transmission using a carb plate. it's a 351w, TKO, iron heads and Victor Jr (aluminum) manifold. I had even milled 1/4" off the carb surface of the manifold probably making it weaker.

i would expect the 460 iron intake manifold to be much stronger than my victor jr.

I have R&R'd my iron head/aluminum manifold 460 several times with the FMX (heavier than C6) attached using a lift plate and load leveler. No issues. Use grade 8 bolts to attach the lift plate.
