Lightning sucks.........................

Had a lightning strike last Thursday and lost some electronics. TV, Play Station, Modem, Router, Camera and the heat pump. Insurance will cover it but it's still a PITA to get the stuff replaced. I guess I can count myself lucky since the strike hit my garage and I was only a couple steps away from going out the door. Sounded like a couple of 12GA shotguns going off beside my ears and was blinded for about 15 seconds, actually I didn't know if my heart was beating or not. Oh well, I guess I can count myself lucky, or luckier than this dude. That is if you can call it luck.

We actually had some thunder on Saturday, very rare occurrence here in SoCal. Sorry for the loss of your electronics.

I watched the youtube, so did he piss himself? Twice? After the second strike I think that I would stay on the ground. Or did he utter the infamous words "may lightning strike me" :rr

That vid is soooo fake.

On the other hand....we had a wicked lightning here a couple days ago. I filmed a 3 minutes and then converted it to stills and created a cool composite....

You can even see my neighbors barn silhouetted

I went to Yankee Meadows last night to camp for the night and go fishing. When we got there it was raining pretty steadily.

While I was putting the tent up there was a strip of lightning and before I could even count the thunder struck. It had to be very close.

After the new tent tore, I just wadded it up put it in the back of the truck and slept in the truck!

Apparently, my house got hit (or at least the power did) on Monday. I lost a port on a network router, and today I found out my printer died. *sigh*

You may want to give the whole house a good check. Today I learned that some of my smoak alarms are fried and my hit was 6 days ago.

My folks' house got hit in Az. several years ago. Dad was moving his motorcycle into the garage and he left two black skid marks for 24' and hit the steel workbench hard. Scratched his hand and bent the forks of the bike. Mom was in the house. The strike hit near that end and took out the TV and cable box, went thru the wiring and as it passed her chair, Moms hair stood on end. On thru the house, it blew the a/c thermostat off the wall, burnt the a/c motor out, melted two circuit breakers, burnt a 20" fan, and then went to the garage and blew out 4 eight foot florescent lights, and caused the yard light to explode.

Insurance fixed it all and the odd thing was....none of the wiring had to be replaced. Electrician said all was good.

One hit two days ago here....the flash was not even gone when the thunder and the pressure change hit me...found no damage anywhere.

I went out and bought a new HP printer and had a devil of a time getting the software/drivers to load. No matter what I did, the installation procedures bombed. I had to call HP tech support, and got squared away with a nice guy in Costa Rica, who installed a Universal Printer Driver instead of the drivers on the CD. All told, it took 1.5 hours to get everything installed...ugh.

Meanwhile, I found that the Ground Fault Circuit tripped, and my refrigerator was off. The freezer section was full of ice which melted, of course, causing a fair amount of water to sit on the floor. That lightning strike or voltage fluctuation caused a fair amount of grief.

I replaced my stove and microwave last year after a bolt hit the house. At least the new owners will use them!

We don't see much lightning around here, except for when I eat a big nasty burrito. Then, let the sparks fly!

just because the ends are pointed doesn't make it lightning... :hide

Well, it happened again. Power went out for about 10 seconds Sunday and I lost my Ethernet port on my laptop (which wasn't on at the time). This time, the wireless router still worked, so I'm now running wireless out in the garage. I just ordered a USB to Ethernet converter ($17) so I can run a land line if I have to.

With apologies to AZPete, Lightnings suck.

Sounds like you have an issue somewhere in the system since no one else around is making a mad rush to buy replacement parts such as you are. My power flickered the same time and no issues.

And yes, my Lightning does suck....especially when it whines......
