Lost Squadron Of Spitfires Found

HOLY CRAP!!! That is amazing. As a kid Spitfires were always my favorite fighter. I can't believe no one had thought to go back and try to recover them before.

That's pretty cool, where are the damn pictures though?

That's what I want to know!!

Sounds like extra care was taken burying them, that would be great if they were still in good shape.

Just wonder how much of the plane has rotted? Much of them were made out of wood.

I'm skeptical. No pics? Brand new planes buried? Doesn't really make much sense.
No pics because they have yet to be unearthed. There doesn't seem to be ANY dispute about the craft being buried. Armies have done such forever at times of war for various reasons. I don't think the validity is at all in question. What remains to be seen is the condition of the planes. If buried as described, they could be in remarkable shape. Too cool.

Rust and oxidation (aluminum) maybe but wood? You got your planes mixed up. Only the DeHaviland Mosquito was made out of wood of the major military aircraftt of WWII.

Sounds like they could be in near perfect condition....those buried in the crates and packing. Removing all that protective coating is a real pain.....

This is even cooler than the P-38's dug out of the ice a few years ago.
Yeah, that one they got it started, then it caught fire and burned to the ice, ruining a wonderful time capsule.

Not sure to call that one a restoration or recreation. It was under a lot of ice. A bunch of us went to Middlesburg to see it being worked on during the restor or recreation.

That was a B-17.

The show I saw it was a P-38. Brought it up piece by piece through a hole in the ice, reassembled it and fired it up and watched it burn to the ground after they got it going.

I remember the B-17 as well. Haven't seen the show on the P-38. I'd be interested in it though.
I'm sure there will be a show on History channel or something when it finally comes to an expedition.

So which was it? I done got mixed up with a Mosquito and Spit.
