A Missouri man reportedly shot himself in the head accidentally while teaching his girlfriend about gun safety.

According to witnesses James Looney was insistent on giving his girlfriend a personal lesson in firearm safety Friday before taking her to a shooting range, MyFOXMemphis reported.

As part of the tutorial, Looney demonstrated different safety features on several firearms then put the guns to his head and asked if they would fire, Jefferson County Sheriff told the station. The third gun actually went off.

The 40-year-old was pronounced dead at a local hospital the next morning — the same day he was to take his girlfriend to the range, the station reported

Exactly. Idiot.

Chicago's original lead guitarist, Terry Kath, did something similar. During a party (I'm sure they were all stoned out of their minds), he took a semi-auto 9mm, removed and inspected the empty magazine, put the empty magazine back in, pointed the gun at his head, and blew his brains out because he forgot about the round in the chamber.
 
Amazing how people feel the need to prove Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest, over and over again!

That's OK, it leaves more O2 for the rest of us.
 
Hummm....maybe he should have been taking a remedial gun safety course instead of teaching one.

I was brought up to always assume a gun is loaded even if you just checked it for the 10th time and to never aim at anything you didn't intend to kill.
