Master cylinder dimensions

As many of you know, I'm working on a big block '68 project car. It has factory power disc brakes with a Bendix (not Midland) booster. The old master cylinder is 7-1/8" long from mounting flange to front nub. The replacement Raybestos master cylinder (part # MC36251) is 7-7/16" long. That additional 5/16" makes installation impossible as there isn't enough space between the brake booster mounting flange and the shock tower. The local parts guy tells me that the Raybestos unit is a direct replacement for the original Bendix master cylinder. I remain a skeptic. Before I see about getting the old master cylinder rebuilt (if it is even rebuildable) I was hoping to tap the wealth of knowledge here.....
1. In your experience is part # MC36251 the correct number for this application?
2. If not, what did you end up using?
3. Has anyone been able to fit the longer master cylinder to the Bendix booster in a '68?
4. If so, what finessing was required for the installation?

Thanks in advance for any insight you may have..........

Jeff,
Call me tomorrow. All I can say is that I got my MC and booster from Chockostang. Don't know the part numbers, etc. Yes it is very tight with a gap of maybe 1/8"+ between the MC and shock tower.

Re: Update on Master cylinder dimensions

I ended up at Power Brake Exchange here in San Jose and had them locate an identical core master cylinder from their stock and had them rebuild it as my original master was beyond repair due to being exposed to the elements for a number of years. Cost about $50.00 and it fits!!!!! Note that the fit is still very tight, like 1/8" clearance to the shock tower but it does clear!!
