Maunal Disk to Power Disk Conversion - Pics

Here are the pictures of what I did to convert from manual brakes to power in my 68 coupe. I had already changed out from drums to disk but did not like the feel of the manual brakes.

This is the 68 Auto Pedal Support I took out of my 68 with manual disk. To convert the pedal in a 67 68 to accept the power booster

I bought a power pedal and booster off ebay and detailed the pedal. It is longer the the non power due the the different pivot point.

I removed 3 of the pressed in nut so the power booster could be mounted. They use studs attached to the booster.

Nice job John, I don't see a dist. valve in the final pic (wires covering?) or did you use one? I could see that your original dist. valve had the brake light warning light disconnected just as mine was, probably the valve was stuck that resets the light.

What are your impressions of the booster addition and pedal change?
Comparisons to no power disc and comparison to modern pb car?
Jon

Wires are just covering it up. I need to reset the pin in the block hence the connector disconnected.

The difference is night and day. Before I had to build up my leg mussels to stop the car. Now, just a slight touch and I am stopping. I would say it is close to new cars, just not any ABS.

John,
Nice work. I have power disc brakes in both Red and Shag and love the feel as well.

Jon,
What all do I need to convert my red car to PB's? I have the booster that came with the Drag car. I see you used the manual support bracket and took out three of the nuts. You also bought a PB pedal. Did it come with the bolt? It looks different than the "pin" in the manual brakes. Can I use the same brake light switch? Thanks

unfortunately it's an automatic... someday in the distant future it may possibly could become a 5 speed. maybe. It's gong to be expensive to get everything I would need to bolt up a 5 speed to the 429. But Power Brakes would be nice.

It did not come with the bolt. But I had one that worked. I looked at my wife's to make sure that I got it correct. I think you should be able to take the peadl to the hardware store and find a grade 8 bolt that would work and fit sung in the channel.

The brake switch is different. You need one for power brakes, The spring in the manual switch is not strong enough and will fail due to more pressure applied with the higher pivot point.
