Max update, not good.

I took Max to the vet this morning to get his staples taken out and get him looked at, it was not a good visit, he is still eating the Deadstang recipe food and keeping it down fairly well, he is now passing blood in his stool and is down to 51.7 lbs, (from near 80) the Ill. state lab still has not sent the lab results back, I told the vet even factoring in the holidays that was ridiculous, (16 days after surgery) I left him there for them to observe him, the vet said he is afraid that is cancerous and not healing where he removed the piece of intestine, it was a little tough driving away from the office with tears forming and a couple rolling down my cheek. The vet is supposed to call the lab early monday and I said if the tissue sample comes back negative we will open him up again and see whats going on, I am about out of hope. Thanks to all of you for your concerns and posts and especially to Craig for the "shag" toy. I am not going to let him get so bad he starts to suffer. Rod

I am very saddened to hear of Max's ordeal.
I lost my best friend (Bear)5 years ago to bone cancer and it was tough. :cry
I will be praying for Max and you to get through this time with a return to good health.

Rod,
It really hurts to read such news, but we all know you are doing every thing possible. I pray for a miracle.

This was a tough post to read....Toni has been pestering me
two or three times a day if their has been any update on Max.

I told her...just wait...we'll hear from Rod when he has news

We also know you will not let him suffer...and we also know
your heart is heavy....BUT NEVER GIVE UP HOPE....I'm sure this
entire forum is praying for both you and Max.

Thanks guys and gals, We have lost a lot of pets over the years but most were older, Max is not an old dog in years or actions, I bought him when he was a pup and he always had that show dog prance (if I was in good enough shape to keep up with him,) I took him to one local tiny charity dog show and he won first in his class (working dog) there were only 6 or 7 other dogs in his class, when we went to the ring for best of show it was pretty hot and Max was an inside air conditioned dog and could have cared less if he was even there by then, I asked the judge afterward (he was a pro ) what was missing and he said he was marked well enough to win but he looked like he didn't want it, I laughed to myself and thought he nailed that on the head. I would take him mushrooming with me even though I had to lift him over any fence over about 3'high. The first time I put him in the lake by my dads I thought he was going to drown, he had a look of fear in his eyes, he was not a natural in the water. I could go on and on as most of you could about pets, I say every time I will not let myself get that attached again, gotta go, damn nose is running, hard to see.

What... you still haven't received lab results?! 16 days seems like way too long to me.

Still hoping for the best.

I normally stay far away from these types of posts. Dogs give us unconditional love and don't ask for much in return except for the occasional scratch behind the ear.

I spent most of today working outside and my Shephard didn't leave my side. I love my dog.

.... and that's all I got to say about that.

My prayers are with you Rod.

Well, I am so sorry to hear about Max. I am not home to tell my Max what is going on with your Max, but I will when I am home. She is 80 pounds and 10 yrs old.

Anyway, I am hoping that you get the lab results very soon! I would be personally calling the lab.

Mel

I just came in from a nice long brisk walk with my pup.
Now reading your post about poor Max really saddens me.
I'm prayer for his full recovery and quickly back home with his family.
J.
