McGwire is a cheater.

I don't care one bit. It's been obvious that he used steroids during his career. That he lied about doing so to a grand jury investigation is an entirely differnet matter.

Was there ever a doubt? Guy has a mediocre career at best then all of sudden become a Home Run king? That doesn't happen over night unless Juice is involved.

What I don't understand in the beginning of this whole fiasco why didn't McQuire,Bonds,Canseco, Sosa and the rest just come out and say " It wasn't against the law, it wasn't against the rules (at the time right?, may be wrong), so I used". Then let the pundits (idiots) debate all they want.

By hindsight is great isn't it?

I'm pretty sure it was against the rules of the time. McGuire did admit to using Andro (it was not listed as a banned substance) but not HGH or other types of steroids. He also didn't lie to congress...he just kept saying, "I don't want to talk about the past" or something very similar. He was VERY CAREFUL not to say anything that could be termed perjury. What is hilarious is the way LaRussa has and continues to defend him. Even saying how courageous his admission is and how it will help to rebuild his character that had been unfairly tarnished...blah, blah, blah. I could puke.
Why does McGuire, a confessed cheater get to come back into BB and yet Pete Rose is still banned. Please.

Baseball, at least for me, will NEVER be the same thanks to these idiots.

*yawn* Who? *yawn*
there's gonna be alot of asterisk in the record books, if all of the users come out.

Baseball is just a picnic sport. You go have a picnic and socialize and when you hear the crack of the bat you then pay attention, then back to something else. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Thanks McGwire for even further depreciating the value of your rookie card and taking money from my pocket.

Thats why i sold mine right when he was going for 70. IIRC, i think i got 200 bucks for it! Whats it worth these days? (The tops Olympic one right?)

The one thing that really sticks out in my mind from the hayday of the roid bunch was that the media was questioning the baseball itself. Did they do something different to the ball? Because it sure is traveling a lot farther those days.

I blame them for making a poor decision to give in to pier pressure. The fans were loving it at the time as was the owners.

But yes it is so much better that it is a "clean" game for now. If only I had a team to root for, wait I do. We broke the record for most consecutive losing seasons at 17, let's go for 18! No one will ever be able to match that. :rp fd

Actually steroids weren't against baseball rules, but were illegal w/out prescriptions. And he was a monster hitter in college and had 49 homers as teh rookie of the year.

But the only reason he's coming out and admitting it is so he can work next year in St Louis. Too much press on this, nobody really cares. Also nice way to take attention from Dawson getting into the hall- CLEAN

I like most at the time figured McGuire was on the roids when he hit 70, I would venture to guess that in those days if every player were tested that you would get 60 plus % positive. I would imagine if a substance would have been available that was said to improve your game in the 40's and 50's you would have a lower number of positives but it would not be 0, it is human nature to try to gain an edge, if they really wanted steroids out of baseball make a list of all banned substances at a certain % in blood, test monthly starting 2011 and if you test positive over you are banned from baseball for life period. Problem solved!

Substance abuse is nothing new in sports. Before steroids players took amphetamines (speed) in an attempt to gain an edge.
MLB knew about it then, and they knew about the roids, but did nothing about it because the inflated numbers were filling the stands.

What gets me is how there is hardly any discussion about what's going on in other sports especially like the NFL!

It's FAKE?!? NNNNNOOOOOOOOO.......Next you'll tell me that there's no such thing as the tooth fairy or the easter bunny!!! Excuse me while I go sit in the corner curled up in the fetal position rocking back and forth -- chanting "pro wrestling is real...pro wrestling is real...pro wrestling is real" :cry :cry
